GT3 buying advice

I know the car above and have been trying to get a good friend to buy it for months. Such a great car for 72k - wish i could buy it and have two!

its a good un.... its still on PH but the dealer has removed from their own website

not much seems to be moving at all in 997.1 gt3 world?

If you restrict yourself to only buying from the OPC, then you will be looking at a far narrower choice of cars. Put simply, especially as they get older, most are sold through specialist, independent dealers.

You could do worse than contact trusted indies - JZM, RPM, 911Virgin etc. - even if they have nothing in stock, because very often they know of cars before they come on sale.

My own car sold and, within less than a week, was replaced in the indie dealer's showroom with a car that was near identical, bar the paint colour. Price, mileage and spec were the same. I'm guessing they clearly did not have space to keep two on show.

Try the buckets - they are a bit Marmite and you will either fit them and get on with them or not.

Will do, I shall look at the black one mentioned in posts
Sounds like a plan

Funny that as yesterday i was thinking about removing mine and just use my iPhone as I worked out how to link it to the amp and speakers.

Funny you say this as we were trying to figure out how a while back, just seems the most ideal solution to me. Care to share the method?

Thx

... that's because there aren't that many for sale :?:

i counted close to 20 on PH just now and many have been on for months!

Yes you're right, that is interesting. I counted 19, been a while since I saw that many for sale. Plenty for buyers to choose from, shouldn't be any problems finding a nice car if you're looking for one :thumb:

Does seem a very good idea and solves most of the drawbacks of PCM 2.1/2 unit.

Personally, I couldn't stand the look of the PCM thing and ditched it for a decent Kenwood unit. Heresy I know, but the car is a keeper. Navigator reckons it's a big improvement anyway.

I think senoj was thinking something more like my car has, but with the ability for the car to Bluetooth connect an iPhone direct to the amp. I did look at hiding a Bluetooth receiver behind the cubby but lost interest when at the time it looked like the only solution was doing this with a raspberry pi

Yes, very neat that. I think a few people would like to know how to connect an iPhone straight to the amp - sounds like a very good plan to me.

As others have said, I wouldn't restrict your search to OPCs. Not many will even entertain listing a 997.1 GT3

Seats; by far the most divisive option. Try them both, and if it's a good 'comfort' car then buy it! You can always source some seats (and likely still less total £ than buying a CS car)

I would always get an expert PPI (eg Peter Morgan), which means that private sales are in scope. I would still get a PPI with almost all dealers, except OPCs and 911V)

...most importantly, drive it 😜

I did the move last year, 993 C4S to 997.1GT3CS. Part ex with RPM.
Even though RPM is reputable I had a Peter Morgan ppi, I have used them on the last 3 Porsche purchases and they uncovered things I never would have. Each time I was able to use the ppi to get all the works completed prior to purchase. For me I wouldn't buy a Porsche without the PPI no mater who the dealer was.
Dealing with Alex and the team at RPM was fantastic and I couldn't rate them highly enough.
Can't add much more to what others have said. I upgraded my PCM to a Kenwood unit. Before lockdown spent a week in Cornwall and being able to use Waze and listen to my fav radio apps was fantastic. I found the buckets fine and the drive from mine to Cornwall was 5hours. But I am slim and short and a mate who is, um shall we say heavy boned doesn't find them comfortable. So you need to try them 1st. Mine had the LSD changed to the Motorsport item, I have cross over pipe and RPM set the car up for how I drive.
Test drive was scary as the car hunted out the cambers and the speed was on another level coming from the 993. But I know how adjustable Porsches are and knew after talking with Centre of Gravity and RPM that they could set the car up for me which they did. CofG rate the chassis guys at RPM and that was good enough for me to use them to tune it.I do not regret the move, the engine is epic and I would buy one just for that alone.
I'd give the likes of RPM a call as they may know of cars out there that could be available. Good luck with the search, these are odd times but the thought of getting a GT3 I would say makes them very bearable!
