Unsatisfactory SOR experience review with Gmund Cars Ltd.

Very unsatisfactory experience with Gmund Cars Ltd.

My statements here relate to a historic purchase of a car from Gmund Cars Ltd in 2004. I had an unhappy experience then, that dragged on and cost a lot in legal fees. These are my opinions alone and are based solely on my one transaction.

I am not surprised that this behaviour is still happening today. I feel nothing but sympathy for other buyers and sellers that have been disappointed. These 'marque specialists' promote themselves as experts but all too often aren't.

The postings, here and elsewhere, just prove two things; the current behaviour and customer experience is nothing new and I always suspected that his legal support were always very well briefed.

The hidden accident damage that lay within my car and the historic botched repairs - from the dangerous to the comical - the air con rotary switch, once removed, was not found to be the original chunky OE Bosch unit but a rotary volume or balance spool from a domestic stereo radio cassette player with two unfused and thin wires that burned out on first use. These deficiencies weren't immediately noticeable and all took time and money to be identified and rectified - even though I had the car pre-purchased inspected by a recommended firm that Gmund suggested. D'oh! Who do you trust when you're buying your first Porsche?

A lot came to light when I asked the previous owners and sellers and a lot was well-known and was obvious when you knew where to look.

I am sentimental about rescuing and restoring classic cars, I had the car as a project as enjoyed the time that I owned it. It was marred by the purchase experience but that wasn't the car's fault.

I have kept all my to-and-fro correspondence and have always hoped that karma would catch-up with him and his ilk (his legal representative and the sub-contractors that he recommends, are in my opinion and experience, just a culpable as I doubt that they can reasonably claim that they didn't know what was going on).

I have kept an occasional interest in Gmund as it reminds me that I should have been wiser and less trusting in my youth. I consoled myself that, naively, one day the Japanese proverb that 'if you sit by the river long enough, you will see the body of your enemy float by' would become a reality. I hope that this is not the end of the uncovering.

I have ink-on-paper facts, 'have kept all correspondence and emails, subsequent receipts, that are not for wider publication here but he and I know what was said, promised but was not delivered.

I read these posts and the others with a glass of red in my hand and a rueful smile. His reputation is in tatters. I wonder who the 'Andy' is that gives Gmund five stars but no other statement on a Google Review, or who the 'Sam' is on another forum that counsels us not to rush to any judgement?

There is some good news and for balance, in getting the car sorted and becoming more knowledgeable about the marque, I met some great people, true experts and skilled honest technicians, artisans and enthusiasts.

Dicker, thanks for bringing your shocking experiences to light of Andy Mearns of Gmund Cars Ltd

I did like this "I wonder who the 'Andy' is that gives Gmund five stars but no other statement on a Google Reviews"

Very unsatisfactory experience with Gmund Cars Ltd.

It would be great to know who posted the bland five star rating.

And yet another one today...

Very good news - Paid in full by Gmund

I have some very good news to report today.

Gmund have paid the full outstanding balance from the sale of my car and also paid my legal costs and interest.

Throughout the last few months Gmund kept saying they would pay me in full, but I wasn't sure that day would ever come. It's been a very stressful experience. Thanks to everybody on this forum for their messages of support!

Andrew at Gmund said that some of the comments made on this thread relating to previous experiences with Gmund are untrue / factually incorrect. In the interest of fairness, can I ask anybody who has commented to look back and delete anything which is not an accurate or true reflection of previous experiences.

Brilliant news. Great to hear that you got your money back. I find the cheek of him to claim that certain aspects are not correct hard to stomach.
Rather than defend his position, how about he engage with a successful specialist dealer to advise on how they can help improve his business, rather than using customers money for months on end to help with his poor cash flow management skills.
Clowns

its not really good news it it?

You have had to chase the guy who owed you money.... he made a profit from you, and eventually gave 'your' money back, once the sh*t hit the fan big time for him!

I'd say you are 'lucky' and that's it.

Delighted that your finally paid.

People naturally will form their own opinion on the conduct of Gmund.

Good that he paid up but he had to ! ... Look what you have gone through just to get your payment and how long you have waited , i would never trust GMUND CARS now , they deserve everything bad that will come of this IMO... disgraceful .

Glad you got paid but as another case of none payment for a sale arose yesterday it wouldn't take a genius to conclude that perhaps that persons sales proceeds are what could have paid you.......?

And so the cycle continues....?

Sounds like a motoring version of a pyramid or ponzi scheme :hand:

Doesn't Andrew Means of Gmund Cars Ltd still have his nice personal collection of rare and classic Porsche's ?

I have been watching this interest. Glad you eventually got paid.

There is always an element of trust with any transaction with a car dealer especially where they will have to pass the proceeds to you.

I would never chance the risk of dealing with Gmund now, either buying or selling - given haw brazenly he has lied to you and messed you about.

The next company to watch is Prindiville - Good old Alex Prindiville has run off with customers SOR money and not paying his housing rent either after marriage broke down.... "some" of these people really are utter scum IMO

A big weight off your mind, well done and I think a lot of people have learnt from this thread !

As for the untrue posts, Yeah Right 🤔🤔🤔

Glad to hear the OP got sorted out......

I'd be very careful about a SOR agreement in the future.

I had a 991GTS that went to JZM on a SOR basis.
They had it ages with no interested customers.
I called around one or two OPC's and found out they would buy it
at the same price to me as I would get from JZM if they sold it.
So, I phoned JZM and told them I was collecting the car as it had
remained unsold for 3 months.......and would you believe it- they called me
straight back to say a bloke in the showroom had just bought it there and then as I'd phoned ....... what a bizarre coincidence I thought....
