Very unsatisfactory experience with Gmund Cars Ltd.
My statements here relate to a historic purchase of a car from Gmund Cars Ltd in 2004. I had an unhappy experience then, that dragged on and cost a lot in legal fees. These are my opinions alone and are based solely on my one transaction.
I am not surprised that this behaviour is still happening today. I feel nothing but sympathy for other buyers and sellers that have been disappointed. These 'marque specialists' promote themselves as experts but all too often aren't.
The postings, here and elsewhere, just prove two things; the current behaviour and customer experience is nothing new and I always suspected that his legal support were always very well briefed.
The hidden accident damage that lay within my car and the historic botched repairs - from the dangerous to the comical - the air con rotary switch, once removed, was not found to be the original chunky OE Bosch unit but a rotary volume or balance spool from a domestic stereo radio cassette player with two unfused and thin wires that burned out on first use. These deficiencies weren't immediately noticeable and all took time and money to be identified and rectified - even though I had the car pre-purchased inspected by a recommended firm that Gmund suggested. D'oh! Who do you trust when you're buying your first Porsche?
A lot came to light when I asked the previous owners and sellers and a lot was well-known and was obvious when you knew where to look.
I am sentimental about rescuing and restoring classic cars, I had the car as a project as enjoyed the time that I owned it. It was marred by the purchase experience but that wasn't the car's fault.
I have kept all my to-and-fro correspondence and have always hoped that karma would catch-up with him and his ilk (his legal representative and the sub-contractors that he recommends, are in my opinion and experience, just a culpable as I doubt that they can reasonably claim that they didn't know what was going on).
I have kept an occasional interest in Gmund as it reminds me that I should have been wiser and less trusting in my youth. I consoled myself that, naively, one day the Japanese proverb that 'if you sit by the river long enough, you will see the body of your enemy float by' would become a reality. I hope that this is not the end of the uncovering.
I have ink-on-paper facts, 'have kept all correspondence and emails, subsequent receipts, that are not for wider publication here but he and I know what was said, promised but was not delivered.
I read these posts and the others with a glass of red in my hand and a rueful smile. His reputation is in tatters. I wonder who the 'Andy' is that gives Gmund five stars but no other statement on a Google Review, or who the 'Sam' is on another forum that counsels us not to rush to any judgement?
There is some good news and for balance, in getting the car sorted and becoming more knowledgeable about the marque, I met some great people, true experts and skilled honest technicians, artisans and enthusiasts.
