That info is a worthy mention Gary.
A reminder to always do your homework.
That 944 is cool. I’m a sucker for colour coded wheels.
Not sure I’d choose it over a GT3 mind but I suppose it’s only a fifth of the cost.

Aarrgghh! I know lads, I spotted that in the early hours whilst carrying out my almost hourly searches.
It’s the only 964 that has been almost 100% suitable. Rebuild - check, good colour - check, suspension refresh - check.
It’s so close yet so far though as I am limited to £50k private sale (standard bank loan) or £58k/£60k with dealer finance as there are cleverer options with the classic car specialists.
I’m consoling myself in the fact it doesn’t have aircon, otherwise I’d be very very frustrated.
I’d pretty much discounted 964s as I don’t want a project, a C4, a tip, a cab or a targa. Typical.
That is a perfect example of what we were talking about earlier with budget just never quite being enough.
Thanks for posting it anyway g911. Well I think it’s thanks.
Things like that 964 really get me buzzing. It does make me consider something like a 987 Spyder with warranty for a couple of years then push the boat out for what I really want a bit further down the line. But no, otherwise where does it all end.
One more thing, the Mint green Jasmine built 964RS rep was up at JZM last year for that exact price of £60k. 11k miles since built iirc so this highlights what a great buy that was for someone eh.
Whilst the above car is lovely Minty is like a brand new car.
I know the new owner of Minty, pretty sure he paid more than £60k for it Mark ....
Fifty two thousand of our Great British Pounds (less with some haggling ...)
993 RS rep Mark ???
Sell the ghastly wheels, exhaust/tailpipes and GT2 rear spoiler. Fit a replica 993 RS Clubsport rear spoiler, a decent set of wheels and some Tequipment big ovals. Initial job jobbed
Thereafter the sky (or your wallet) is the limit
Actually, you may as well buy the red example they've got as it looks to have a genuine RS bodykit fitted ....
I can only think it has sold since then as it was definitely £59,995 last time JZM had it. Seemed a lot then. As ever, it seems cheap now. I talking about the RS rep in mint green, not the repaired 964 3.6T.
That 993 has a lot of potential but I’m a simple man and can’t do LHD unfortunately.
Out of interest I sat in a LHD 964RS the other day and I didn’t notice any big improvement in the pedal positions that everyone goes on about. Mind you it’s 7 years since I sat in a RHD 964. To me my feet just felt pushed over to the right away from the NS wheel well, rather than pushed over to the left in a RHD.
I’m usually quite sensitive to stuff like that so I’m sure my sitting was simply too brief, or my memory of the RHD too distant.
In other news I’ve booked my hotel in Newmarket for Friday night. Ready for Autostore on Sat. They still haven’t rang back and confirmed someone can see me though so I’ll have to ring them in the morning. I hate poor comms from people.
Also the silver RPM Mk2 may be sold. Great eh....

Hi Mark, yep I was referring to the Mint Green RS rep at JZM.
Hopefully I’m not speaking out of turn, but as I understand it, it didn’t sell with JZM and was returned to its owner.
Sold to a mate of mine by 911V.
As for LHD/RHD pedal positioning, try them back to back and you’ll soon see how much more natural the LHD arrangement is.
LHD in an aircooled 911 is very intuitive, and far far easier than you may think. You should try one before you reject the idea outright, I think you may be pleasantly surprised ....
That’s a US C4 RS rep on Works Brombachers ...

Mornin’ Henry,
Ah well, you know more than me about minty’s more recent years. It’s a cracking car (if a bit hardcore for the road I’d guess).
Yes I’m sure if I tried LHD vs RHD back to back or without a 7 years gap in between I’d notice the difference straight away.
I wish I could live with LHD but I can’t. I’ve only driven LHD hire cars on holiday and the amount of time I whacked my left hand off the door card trying to change gear, wasn’t even funny.
I think it’s the same over here Neil. 964 C2S certainly seem very hard to come by now and prices definitely reflect it.
I’ve added another car to Saturdays list, a plain Jane 993 C2 that looks to be good value for money. It would be a slow project into an RS lookalike. Not a replica as I keep calling them.
It’s whether I can live with it as it is for this year when it doesn’t excite me much. Again a GT3 is ready straight out of the box.
So the list is 2 x GT3 and 2 x 993, a C2S and a C2. That’s if none have sold.
I’ve never ever test driven a car that I didn’t know I was going to buy, as I’d feel like such a time waster if I didn’t buy it. Especially if I took out a clean car and dirtied it.
I know the price will be a big decider so would you guys agree price then ask to drive it or just try and drive it anyway incase you didn’t like it.
I planned on viewing the cars and coming away to weigh it all up, then ring up and haggle. Hmm...

When I was looking for a 996 a couple of years ago, I went in the car as a passenger at first and then had a drive myself. Ironically the 2 cars that I didn't drive was the Zanzibar C4 owned by a Chief and the car that I eventually bought. The history and condition of each car really made a 20 minute drive round the block fairly unimportant. Had they been for sale at a dealer I would have driven them for certain.

Given at this point that you're not even 100% on which model you want, I'd definitely be driving them if possible - just the drive alone may help rule in/out a car and ultimately save you and the dealer time.
I totally understand where you are coming from with regards to wasting their time, but ultimately, they are selling a product - that's what they are there for... and you need to be 100% sure before buying it.

Yes lads I’ll just see how the viewings go first.
Been overthinking it all this week (thanks to nightshft lack of sleep) and I’ve been viewing it like a life or death decision.
I’m just going to go and enjoy the day and weigh it up next week.
If they sell or I don’t like them then no big deal.
My mate Ralf popped up in my old one tonight. I’d forgotten how good it looks. Weird seeing it with his reg on mind.
I’d said I wouldn’t buy it back but to be honest, I would have tonight.
We’ll see what Saturday brings. As Ady (Kas) said earlier in the thread, will a GT3 still blow my socks off and seem £40k better?
Anyway I’ll update after Saturday or next week if I decide.

What? Are you saying that 20 mins gentle drive in mine, in pouring rain, didn’t blow your socks off? 🤣😜🚗

Haha, it felt very good matey, just to feel the stiffness and hear the Mezger again. I’m still very keen, we’ll just see what this weekend brings.
We are looking forward to a good car hunt roadtrip.

All the best for your shopping trip Marky
For father's day I was thinking of remaking the Cadbury newsagent advert and sending my daughter in to Autostore for the 996 GT3RS

Well that's bloody annoying and they've lost me as an interested party, because I drove right past their area on Saturday to go to Ashgood, but I didn't bother stopping as I thought it had gone.
If they'd taken my number last Monday when I rang they'd have had a fall back plan but the guy (Terry I think) was pretty uninterested as he had his buyer.
Tom seems more friendly there.
I'm not trailing down there again in a hurry anyway. Mega long weekend that was and totally fruitless.
Being totally honest though if it's still on original suspension then I'm not interested anyway. I don't want a £55k project, which seemed to be the theme of the weekend to be honest.
Busy at mo so can't go into it now, but not much joy, put it that way.

That's a ball ache. 911V have good rep so you would think the very least that they would do is take your details in the event that the sale falls through or that something else crops up in the meantime. I don't quite get the " I don't give a toss if you buy it or not" sales technique of some dealers. Anyway, as you say, if it still on original suspension, then it's not for you.
Nothing else took your fancy?

Hi g911,
Hectic week but gonna just round things up here.
Long boring post. Not relevant to much but after day dreaming about all those possible new cars to choose from I’d better explain how my viewings went.
Basically anyone reading with a nice example of whatever they own, don’t be tempted to change and think the grass is always greener.
Last weekend was a big lesson in why I shouldn’t be an ungrateful ***** always desperate for the next car.
My cars and route changed throughout the week and even on our way down.
Me and Craig headed to Cambridge on Friday night to stop over for the viewing at Autostore on Sat Morn.
So on the way down Alex from RPM messaged to say their silver GT3 had sold. He mentioned it earlier in the week but confirmed on Friday.
Damn! I know that would have been the cleanest out of the RPM, Autostore and Supercar Rooms cars.
So we looked at Autostores black GT3. Straight nice enough car. I won’t go into the negatives online but it’s definitely worth a view if you’re at the lower end of the GT3 price band. 42k miles but it doesn’t wear them too well.
It turned out that would be the only car worthy of consideration but it still needs some fettling after purchase and I think it’s just a bit beyond my means to buy and pour a load more money into straight away.
Next we went to Portiacraft to view the cheap silver 993 C2. Not a horror show but a bit of a story with its service history and cosmetically it requires quite a bit. Oil leaks too. Again I won’t mention all it’s issues on a public forum. It’s £38k for a reason though which the guy there is quick enough to say and he was totally upfront about everything. Nice straight talking guy actually which is great.
Next was the Ashgood 993 C2S. Now thanks to someone on here who’d had it inspected, I had a list of all the faults on that car, hoping that some would have been addressed. Big thanks to the person that sent me that info.
The only item that had been tackled though was the leaky rocker covers. But that didn’t matter as it was still dropping oil from everywhere else.
There was actually no one item that was terrible on the car. It was just that everything was worn or weathered. It has seen a lot of paint and it’s not that good, plus scuttle rust etc etc.
But a good one is £80k so what did I expect for £60k??
With the RPM car gone that was us done by 2pm, so we decided to go and view the Supercar Rooms Polar silver GT3.
I’ve said it in the other thread but it’s a rough old thing. Mechanically sound I’m sure, so if it’s only going to live on track as it has in the past, then it may serve someone well. I wouldn’t buy it at £50k though let alone £55k.
The Autostore car is much nicer for £57k.
So we headed home £350 lighter and rather deflated.
Plan now is.... god knows.
I shouldn’t have sold my 996. It’s probably going to be the worst car decision of my life, without getting overly dramatic.
The little things I still had left to sort were simply nothing compared to what’s out there. I hadn’t realised how mega critical I’d become of the car because I was comparing it to brand new cars basically.
I even went to see my parents on Monday to accept my “Told you so” lecture from my old man.
As it happens my mate who has it now has experienced one or two niggles with it. The worst one being a blow from the exhaust manifold that was off and on for the chain guide work.
I then remembered my Indy saying something about the face of the head being a bit pitted from the old gasket corroding to it.
He’d reffitted the thin genuine gaskets when what it really needs are those “squashy” ones that take up the imperfections. So I’ve ordered one of those and my Indy is gonna sort it for my mate.
I offered my mate his money back as it was an impulse buy for him to be honest and I’d love the thing back although we’ll have added 2 extra owners for nothing, but he loves the car and won’t give me it back.
So I’m stumped for my next one. The crap being pedalled, especially the aircooled stuff, is unreal and was a massive wake up call as to what £60k gets you.
I mean they’re £60k! Yet the cars are projects.
Only car I still think about is one I viewed a little while back.
Not perfect and needs a full paint to be anything like mint, but a good straight car with mods I would do anyway.
Failing that a Boxster Spyder still appeals for my trip and you can find them in as new condition. I just know they won’t hold my interest like an older 911 though so why bother.
So like I say, anyone thinking of changing just be sure you have the budget for a good example of what you want.
I thought I did or might have but I’ve been proved well and truly wrong.
Anyway, onwards and upwards, adapt and overcome, and all that jazz.
I’m seriously thinking of having a year out and saving up a bit. Of course, it would be the summer I’ve planned what will hopefully be the best roadtrip I’ve been on.
Why oh why I sold that 996. I’m an idiot. What a muppet!
Always the thing when looking at cars online, they very rarely live up to expectations as we naturally think there better than they are.
Is your mate not only keeping your old one for a short period? Wait and buy back maybe? _________________ 1999 C2 Coupe - http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=124107

Oh dear....
We've all been in the same boat at some time.
GT3 wise, I think you're just going to have to be patient and wait for something to crop up. Some of them have been for sale for absolutely ages.
As for air cooled values.... It's hard to judge whether they are fair value or not really. You would think that £50k gets you a nice car but in the current market
perhaps it doesn't. Maybe swallow your pride and speak to 911V about the 3.2 they have? Had they called you back when the car became available again you probably would have viewed it and maybe even bought it.....
I also think that buying a car from a well regarded dealer adds a little bit of provenance come re sale time. Just my 2p.
