Marky's 996 ownership thread.

Pull yourself together. :D
That car is perfect.
Air cooled C2, Engine rebuild, suspension rebuild, spotless bodywork(apparently)
Great colour as well.
A rare car these days.

If you say so, SVP worth a Google for a reason or actually lots of reasons try popping over to impact bumpers. Com and mentioning his name.

Sorry, I posted at the same time time as you. It was directed at Marky :)
So you are suggesting that this car may be no good because of the SVP engine rebuild?

The car looks lovely, I am merely pointing out you need to do your homework as per my previous post and satisfy yourself on the quality of work carried out.

To be clear I don't know any specifics on this car .

That info is a worthy mention Gary.
A reminder to always do your homework. :thumb:

That 944 is cool. I'm a sucker for colour coded wheels. 8)
Not sure I'd choose it over a GT3 mind but I suppose it's only a fifth of the cost.

Aarrgghh! I know lads, I spotted that in the early hours whilst carrying out my almost hourly searches.

It's the only 964 that has been almost 100% suitable. Rebuild - check, good colour - check, suspension refresh - check.

It's so close yet so far though as I am limited to £50k private sale (standard bank loan) or £58k/£60k with dealer finance as there are cleverer options with the classic car specialists.

I'm consoling myself in the fact it doesn't have aircon, otherwise I'd be very very frustrated.
I'd pretty much discounted 964s as I don't want a project, a C4, a tip, a cab or a targa. Typical.
That is a perfect example of what we were talking about earlier with budget just never quite being enough. :frustrated:

Thanks for posting it anyway g911. Well I think it's thanks. :dont know:

Things like that 964 really get me buzzing. It does make me consider something like a 987 Spyder with warranty for a couple of years then push the boat out for what I really want a bit further down the line. But no, otherwise where does it all end.

One more thing, the Mint green Jasmine built 964RS rep was up at JZM last year for that exact price of £60k. 11k miles since built iirc so this highlights what a great buy that was for someone eh.
Whilst the above car is lovely Minty is like a brand new car. 8)

I know the new owner of Minty, pretty sure he paid more than £60k for it Mark ....

993 RS rep Mark ???

Sell the ghastly wheels, exhaust/tailpipes and GT2 rear spoiler. Fit a replica 993 RS Clubsport rear spoiler, a decent set of wheels and some Tequipment big ovals. Initial job jobbed

Thereafter the sky (or your wallet) is the limit

Actually, you may as well buy the red example they've got as it looks to have a genuine RS bodykit fitted ....

Hi Henry,

I can only think it has sold since then as it was definitely £59,995 last time JZM had it. Seemed a lot then. As ever, it seems cheap now. I talking about the RS rep in mint green, not the repaired 964 3.6T.

That 993 has a lot of potential but I'm a simple man and can't do LHD unfortunately. :nooo:

Out of interest I sat in a LHD 964RS the other day and I didn't notice any big improvement in the pedal positions that everyone goes on about. Mind you it's 7 years since I sat in a RHD 964. To me my feet just felt pushed over to the right away from the NS wheel well, rather than pushed over to the left in a RHD.

I'm usually quite sensitive to stuff like that so I'm sure my sitting was simply too brief, or my memory of the RHD too distant. :thumb:

In other news I've booked my hotel in Newmarket for Friday night. Ready for Autostore on Sat. They still haven't rang back and confirmed someone can see me though so I'll have to ring them in the morning. I hate poor comms from people.
Also the silver RPM Mk2 may be sold. Great eh....

ETA - Wow that red one Henry!

Hi Mark, yep I was referring to the Mint Green RS rep at JZM.
Hopefully I'm not speaking out of turn, but as I understand it, it didn't sell with JZM and was returned to its owner.
Sold to a mate of mine by 911V.

As for LHD/RHD pedal positioning, try them back to back and you'll soon see how much more natural the LHD arrangement is.

LHD in an aircooled 911 is very intuitive, and far far easier than you may think. You should try one before you reject the idea outright, I think you may be pleasantly surprised ....

That's a US C4 RS rep on Works Brombachers ... :D

Mornin' Henry,

Ah well, you know more than me about minty's more recent years. It's a cracking car (if a bit hardcore for the road I'd guess).

Yes I'm sure if I tried LHD vs RHD back to back or without a 7 years gap in between I'd notice the difference straight away.
I wish I could live with LHD but I can't. I've only driven LHD hire cars on holiday and the amount of time I whacked my left hand off the door card trying to change gear, wasn't even funny. :D

I think it's the same over here Neil. 964 C2S certainly seem very hard to come by now and prices definitely reflect it.

I've added another car to Saturdays list, a plain Jane 993 C2 that looks to be good value for money. It would be a slow project into an RS lookalike. Not a replica as I keep calling them.
It's whether I can live with it as it is for this year when it doesn't excite me much. Again a GT3 is ready straight out of the box.

So the list is 2 x GT3 and 2 x 993, a C2S and a C2. That's if none have sold.

I've never ever test driven a car that I didn't know I was going to buy, as I'd feel like such a time waster if I didn't buy it. Especially if I took out a clean car and dirtied it.
I know the price will be a big decider so would you guys agree price then ask to drive it or just try and drive it anyway incase you didn't like it.

I planned on viewing the cars and coming away to weigh it all up, then ring up and haggle. Hmm...

When I was looking for a 996 a couple of years ago, I went in the car as a passenger at first and then had a drive myself. Ironically the 2 cars that I didn't drive was the Zanzibar C4 owned by a Chief and the car that I eventually bought. The history and condition of each car really made a 20 minute drive round the block fairly unimportant. Had they been for sale at a dealer I would have driven them for certain.

Given at this point that you're not even 100% on which model you want, I'd definitely be driving them if possible - just the drive alone may help rule in/out a car and ultimately save you and the dealer time.

I totally understand where you are coming from with regards to wasting their time, but ultimately, they are selling a product - that's what they are there for... and you need to be 100% sure before buying it.

Yes lads I'll just see how the viewings go first.

Been overthinking it all this week (thanks to nightshft lack of sleep) and I've been viewing it like a life or death decision.
I'm just going to go and enjoy the day and weigh it up next week.
If they sell or I don't like them then no big deal.

My mate Ralf popped up in my old one tonight. I'd forgotten how good it looks. Weird seeing it with his reg on mind.

I'd said I wouldn't buy it back but to be honest, I would have tonight. :frustrated:

We'll see what Saturday brings. As Ady (Kas) said earlier in the thread, will a GT3 still blow my socks off and seem £40k better? :?:

Anyway I'll update after Saturday or next week if I decide. :thumb:
