Headlights (again)

My word, Its a convoluted story on lighting isn't it :)

I think I'm going to try the the Tore hit kit first and then see if I feel like I need more.

I've got the Tore kit with better main beam bulbs. Will have a look and see what they are at the weekend as it's a super effective combo on the very dark roads of the highlands

Cool. Interested to read what you're using for main beam as I have the ToreB kit to fit and would like to do the mains while in there. :thumb:

Is there a good reason why we don't go straight to LEDs for both low and high beam?

I have not yet found a LED system with sufficient light output to replace HID's.
In my opinion are HID's still better. However, using LED or HID in the 993 open reflector high beam light does not produce a light pattern of my liking. There's risk for a lot of light in the car near field, this is not where I need my high beam lights.

In addition, the light pattern of the H1 LED systems I have tried in the 993 low beam projector have been terrible.

LED's are also most often 6000K, and this is a bit on the blueish side for my taste. My vendors tell me they can supply 4300K LED colour, but these have a reduced light output compared to 6000K.
Cheers,
Tore

Thanks Tore. So what's your current high beam recommendation?

I have no recommendation of extra white or bright halogen bulbs. I've tried several brands of halogen bulbs myself, and have not seen significant colour or brightness differences. The names vary, Silverstar, Xenon white, Superbright etc. All fancy names.
Rennlisters tend to recommend Osram/ Sylvania ZXE's, I was only impressed by the packaging on these, not the bulbs, at least taking the extra cost into account. In my opinion they are all about the same and have learnt to live with the slightly yellowish high beam. I prioritise the light pattern.

Do not use 100W halogen bulbs, they are extremely hot, and will damage the bulb holder/reflectors, and possibly the wiring.

Cheers,
Tore

i have tore hids, and am after better high beam illumination.
the morimotos look great, but as i drive a lot in europe a non starter.
Question, are the cyclops led bulbs an mot fail? both strictly and practically, my t-HIDs always pass.
thanks

I've not used them, so not sure how effective they are... but I believe there are stickers/reflectors you can apply to the outside of the headlight to 'convert' the beam to suit in Europe? ...and then remove once you're back in the UK. Thoughts?

I have just passed an MoT with Cyclops main, but then the tester is a good friend. the Morimoto is such a flat cut off that continental driving should not be a problem unless you transgress another byelaw and draw attention.
I will be driving to Le Mans this year for the classic 24 and don't anticipate any problems. I did get pulled for doing 130 many years ago, big fine and my fluent French was no help.

Anyone tried the morimoto H1 2stroke 2.0 LEDs?

Select RHD (very important) and the splitters, these are just wiring to flip the shutter up when on main beam or flash.
I would not recommend their own HiDs, ballast, relays etc. Just use Tore B's HiDs and all will fit in the headlight pod. Early 993s have a different lid on the pod and do not have the lugs to take the Hid ballast but it's not a major problem as you can buy the lids seperately or use double sided tape ( 3M)

They also provide a more secure bulb holder (Motoholder) but I couldn't find it perhaps they now come as standard. You will not need anything other than a decent main bulb as the Morimoto main function is totally adequate and fitting an led main is a bit fiddly and overkill imho (Although I did)
It's not cheap but the results are brilliant.
There is a UK supplier of morimotos https://emtuning.co.uk/product/bi-xenon-morimoto-mini-h1-7-0/ but you'd have to make your own adapters and wiring kit.

Hello. Since the Tore kit is out of stock and has been for a while, could I use the morimoto ballast instead? So for example should I order:

1. Morimoto RHD
2. Splitter
3. 35W Morimoto XB Ballast

and from Tore order:

1. HID Bulb: https://www.bergvillfx.com/index.php/products/t-light-hid-and-led/hid-bulb-h1-socket.html
2. LED BULB BA9S-WHITE: https://www.bergvillfx.com/index.php/products/t-light-hid-and-led/led-bulb-ba9s-white.html

Would I then also order this Tore transformer: https://www.bergvillfx.com/index.php/products/t-light-hid-and-led/t-light-hid-transformer.html

Or do I order something else from Morimoto? Morimoto also has an optional relay harness. I am not sure what that is. Is that the same as the Tore transformer above?

Thanks for the help!

If anyone is interested in having a kit installed for free (only parts will need to be paid), we would love to develop a kit for this headlight. We can also mount a bi-led projector, since now there are some models which match the light output of HID. Then no external ballast is necessary. Please contact me at [email protected]
