When will 997.1 be a classic?

There are hundreds for sale on autrader ie those for sale on here are not representative of the market :bandit:

There will always be less for sale than more mainstream makes as there where simply less made but if your talking 'classic" in the sense of air cooled Porsche's again you have to remember that from the 996 Porsche made a lot more cars (which they needed to do to save the business ie less cost to build over car) and so I doubt you will get to the level of 5 or 6 of a particular model for sale as you do with the current classics......... but that does not mean they won't be classics (but again you have to remember the 991.1 will be the last of the NA not the 997 )

  Finally something sensible 😂

With regards to rebuilds, there are a hell of a lot of garages that end up with a 997 (or 996) with a bore-scored engine that have no option but to get the car 'fixed' to be able to cut their losses. When they do this, they do the absolute bare minimum (can't state that enough) to sort it out.

Example: Cylinder 6 bank 2 severely scored. Fair amount of wear on other parts that would be replaced if it was my decisions. Garage only get Cylinder 6 relined and don't pay any extra to have other stuff done just to save money. Car is then listed as been in excellent condition and moved on.

If you were to know what % of these cars came through the likes of Hartech et al it would make your eyes water.

Sad but true. :nooo:

By the time 997.1s are classics, then the average joe won't be able to afford a classic due to tax on the car and tax on the fuel.

There are far too many of them, they are problematic.
They don't offer the purity of earlier cars and don't offer the reliability of the later cars.

Just my 2p worth but they're not worth the risks for me.

For those that buy them, then use and enjoy it but an investment it isn't.

I also think gen2s are in for a correction as 991s have just about overlapped.

I don't know if this is true but I read the production of 991s outnumbers the amount made of each previous 911 generation combined.

Staggering IF true!

Only got to look at the limited production and exclusive GT cars. There's more GT3's for sale than R35 GTR's! The latter being in production for 11 years.

Never, along with lots of other potential classics, they will be taxed off the road long before they can achieve that status .

I get the point though, if i was told my car is worth 12k, and engine rebuild is 10k, it is a no brainer to write it off, as most will do.

Not sure that is true: I've spent way more than the value of my car on the (re?)build. Admittedly it's not just a standard fix the engine and get back on the road project but there was definitely not much 'brainer' involved! It was all heart :D

The 997.1 will become a classic when there are no 997.2s left.

Ford Capri is a Classic.......just saying :?:

I remember all these "when will they become a classic" discussions years ago about Mk1 escorts, minis, beetles, MkII cortinas etc.

The naysayers said never, there were far too many of them produced.

There will always be two schools of thought on this subject , I didn't buy my 997.2 to make any money, which is just as well as I have spent 25k on it in repairs in the past year  I brought it to enjoy driving it in this the one life we have .  I intend to drive it ,enjoy it and thats my only consideration.
I am always surprised at guys that only do a few hundred miles a year in theirs incase they devalue it , not sure what the point of owning it is. but everyone to their own :thumb: :thumb:

I think I almost hope they don't became classics with high value as then I would start to be scared to drive it and I risk becoming one of those people that I don't understand, with a high value car in the garage that they dont use and dont enjoy driving. what do they actually do do they get their kicks from standing staring at it and thinking about what its worth , seems very odd they are not even enjoying the money its worth . maybe its a mind set I just dont understand
