When will 997.1 be a classic?

I was just looking at the number of cars for sale on here - the numbers are slowly going down..

997 - 72
996 - 32

I give it another 10 years before we see 5 or 6 for sale on both models.

At the same time, I think demand for a 911 NA, petrol and manual car will go crazy.

There are hundreds for sale on autrader ie those for sale on here are not representative of the market :bandit:

There will always be less for sale than more mainstream makes as there where simply less made but if your talking 'classic" in the sense of air cooled Porsche's again you have to remember that from the 996 Porsche made a lot more cars (which they needed to do to save the business ie less cost to build over car) and so I doubt you will get to the level of 5 or 6 of a particular model for sale as you do with the current classics......... but that does not mean they won't be classics (but again you have to remember the 991.1 will be the last of the NA not the 997 )

I agree with a lot of what you say, however 997.2 and 991.1 are 95% PDK and 100% DFI.

(Clearly I am favouring the 997.1 as I have one!!)

A classic as defined by classic Insurance is when a car is 20 years old.
In reality 996 and 997 were spat off the line like sausages in the factory so not really rare.

There's deffo some Bangers out there.

I'd say there were too many 997's made for it to become s real classic, not for a good many years anyway! Excepting the GT cars of course!

I could start a whole discussion about non-GT/turbo cars being written off due to engine issues and of low values as a result of perceived future costs and speculate about how long it will be before the majority of remaining 997.1 cars ARE GT/turbo variants, but I won't.

It can be fixed!

Yes, but in the lifetime of the cars, as values drop, there will be a point where it isn't worth it to fix them, many will be put beyond use by this.

I guess that is what it will take, and the ones still standing may command good money down the line.

I get the point though, if i was told my car is worth 12k, and engine rebuild is 10k, it is a no brainer to write it off, as most will do.

You would be amazed how few people with that value of car and that cost of rebuild do not write off the car but sink that shed load of money into a rebuild. What is the evidence? Simple. Just look at the volume of rebuilds at any Indy and specialists such as Hartech.
