Endoman said:Check the connections at the starter motor and both earth straps. If it starts and runs ok with a charged battery. Either your battery is faulty or the diodes on the altenator have blown. Hope you didn't mix the wires up on the altenator.
Oilline said:So after my fan refurb the car went straight off to the paint shop for some tidying up.
I therefore did not realise my alternator was not charging my battery. The battery light is not coming on but checking the voltage at the battery with the engine running im only seeing 12v.
So i need to whip the alternator off and see if i also have got my wires crossed!
Or could it be a faulty voltage regulator which i fitted? Its marked up as a Beru part bit it was very cheap off the internet. You do hear of fake components being sold.
So to clarify, the blue wire goes to the insulated terminal and the brown wire to the alternator chassis?
But shouldnt my battery warning light be on ??
Oilline said:So was my own stupid fault. Found the 8mm nut securing the main power lead rattling around inside the plastic end cap ! I mustn't of tightened it up when I put it back together after doing the fan.
Charging now but only 13v on tick over. I have a single pull conversion so alternator running slower than standard so maybe that's why ?
