I have an OEM LSD in mine and it does work. I do benefit from it in road driving, but I am a total driving nerd and if I were more of a normal driver then it probably wouldn't be worth it.
Ned, something to consider is whether it always spins up the same wheel. If you can get the inside wheel to spin up when turning either way then yes, you LSD is dead. If it will only do it when turning one way, then you could have a suspension problem that's throwing your corner weights out, and allowing a merely tired rather than fully shagged diff to not work to its best.
