Thanks for all the comments and messages lads. That was a hectic flippin' weekend. I stuffed up my adjustment back into dayshift mode for the weekend. Those if you who've worked night will know you have to get that first day off right so you sleep that night. ***** it up and it's the weekend written off.
That was like a full time job replying to people and answering questions.
Sorry anyone has messaged and I haven't replied. Totally hectic.
So my mate Mark is 99% buying the car. He sorted funds yesterday. I gave him one more night to sleep on it to be sure he wants it.
Once I get the money today I'm going to ring and hopefully secure one of these two.
Opinions welcome on them. Pros and cons to both.
Boxster Spyder at Newark.

If I go for one and it can be ready for Friday morning we'll go down Thursday night and stop near the dealers. Fri am I'll buy it then head to Oulton for start of a great weekend.
So Boxster.
For
I love the rear view and the sound with pse.
Newer, lower miles, way cleaner and more original. Roof off fun for Alps tour,
Great spec and rare colour. I love guards red.
Shouldn't need much other than servicing for a few years.
Have driven them but not owned one so it's a new experience.
Against.
Low miles but high compared to some Spyders and the market seems daft like the Ferrari market when it comes to what is deemed as high miles.
So will I be forever clock watching the milometer.
Only 320bhp so no quicker than 996 and not a particularly special engine.
Reliable but there are a few gen2 failures starting to happen now.
Windnoise over 60 is comical.
Front view is just a Boxster. - No ***** Sherlock.
GT3
For
Stiff, raw, I love the looks in general, £25k spent a few years ago on all the things they need.
Ohlins, diff rebuild, Alcons, etc.
Maybe the last chance to get back into one and it is keenly priced.
Against
It's been tracked a fair old bit.
Gravel rash galore
It has been in a 'collection" for the last 4 years so has a 4 year gap in the service history file.
It's only done 10 miles in that time so if I start using it will all the dry oil seals start peeing out oil.
Over budget really. I had an absolute max of £50k when I set out looking at stuff.
Keenly priced but it still hasn't sold so if a dealer can't get that for it I'll be lucky to get high 40's if I have to offload it.
So it's thing and ready but straight. Will definitely cost more to get tip top.
As Graham says I've owned one so will it be that good the second time around.
Reliable but it's a £35k engine if it does go bang.
For my road trip the Spyder would be fun but not on the motorway stints due to wind noise.
What's luggage space like?
The GT3 will be harsh I imagine so may not be great either and the rear is filled with rollcage so crap for luggage.
But I'm not choosing the car around one 3 week trip I suppose.
Anyway I'll see what happens today.
Opinions welcomed although I know it's up to me. uh:

I think you should get the GT3. Even better its a patina'd, "broken in" GT3 so you won't be afraid to use it properly.
I think everybody needs a usable 911. The spyder would make a good 2nd Porsche.
Just don't get it painted.
