Strange request from me but a customer with a Gen 2 wants a top notch system to replace his Pcm.

Only stipulation is it has to be Apple car play .

I figured if anyone would know the best system then it has to be you guys .

Hi deMort! Personally I would go with Alpine or Pioneer, all of their top end units have Apple car play, it all depends on what other features he/she wants, if is only car play then I'd suggest something like the Aline iLX-700.

https://www.alpine.co.uk/p/Products/head-units/ilx-700

If they want other features like DAB, built in SAT NAV, CD/DVD etc. then I would look at the latest head units from Pioneer that do it all and now have wi-fi connectivity:

https://www.pioneer-car.eu/eur/products/navigation-multimedia-receivers/overview

The 910 is the latest version of the unit I have in my car, can't rate it highly enough, the only downside is that unless they swap out the amp and speakers too, they won't see the benefit in sound quality.

Cheers Rob .. it gets a bit complicated as the car has Bose so we will need some sort of Most convertor .. ive seen some listed on the Alpine site but they seem to be for Non Bose .

We will discusse a total replacement with the customer but i think he just wants an apple car play head unit ..

Mind you it will be a lot of fun if he says replace it all :D

I can see why you might enjoy that Iain :thumb: Try and persuade him to go for a full custom job :D

Car play is great and units like the iLX-700 are very neat, I needed a built in Sat Nav as too so I have options when driving in Europe! Sound quality was my main concern (not that 911 cabin is the best in this respect) and anything in the signal chain, like the Most adaptor, won't help!

A Most adaptor kinda defeats the object .. but as i understand it the customer is more interested with just having apple .. to be fair he wants a rather expensive exhaust .. tuning options and is throwing a large sum of money at this ..

So im not going to argue ..

But to fit a totally new system .. aghhh .. thats what dreams are made of .. :D

Got to admit .. i thoroughly enjoyed Dammits ICE .. not often i get to do a one off .

My bio from our companys website ..

Ian is a City & Guilds trained Porsche technician with 35 years experience in Vehicle Technologies, the last 10 with a Porsche main dealer. He has gained training and experience on the latest Porsche technologies including Porsche diesel and hybrid models.

Ian specialises in fault diagnosis and loves nothing more than getting buried under a bonnet, covered in wires and test equipment. He also loves to fix a Targa roof, so now you know
where to come.

And if you really want to see who you are talking to .. ie me .. picture below .. and yes thats a shell of a car and i was handed a bin liner full of the wiring loom , fuse board etc and asked to fit it ...

I Hadent removed it .. great fun :D

It kept me busy for days !

:agree:

Sorry for the thread hijack but do you lose sound quality on Bose using a MOST adapter ?

Well it certainly can't improve sound quality, don't like the idea of an analogue signal being converted to digital then back to analogue again, there will almost certainly be some degradation of the signal, probably hardly noticeable though with the Bose system!
