Guys looking at purchasing a 911 997 C2 registered Sept 2005, Is there any way of knowing for sure which IMS bearing it has?
The engine number is 68515141

Thanks in advance
Max

That engine number is 15141 but it follows the design revision number 8.

Design revision 9 was the model that had the latest IMS modification that was done. The change over within that was at engine number 07475 for 3.6 litre cars.

:welcome: to 911uk by the way.

Further to the above the engine number that you would ideally want is one ending 6-9-6-07475 or later.

6 denotes the 6 cylinder engine
9 is the revision number
6 is the model year so 2005/2006 cars
07475 or later = the cars with the latest IMS design

Oh No

Thanks guys its a 3.8 I planned to view but may wait until a later car becomes available, any idea what year of manufacture the 3.8 has the revised IMS?

If this is a 3.8 engine it has the latest IMS bearing.

The cross-over for the 'S' car was

6
8
5
0970

so

6
8
5
15141

would be ok. :thumb:

All irrelevant. If it goes pop I'll buy you a Turbo.

I think others have posted the info but here it is just in case :thumb:

Last IMS revision before no IMS (Gen2 MA1 block):

997 Carrera 3.6 with engine numbers from M96/0569507475 are the new IMS design.

M96/05 = 997 3.6 Carrera NA
6 = 6 cylinders
9 = design revision
5 = year (2005)
07475 = cumulative production serial

This means some MY2005 benefit and all MY2006 onwards benefit.

997 Carrera S 3.8 with engine numbers from M97/0168509790 are the new IMS design.

M97/01 = 997 3.8 Carrera NA
6 = 6 cylinders
8 = design revision
5 = year (2005)
09790 = cumulative production serial

This means some MY2005 benefit and all MY2006 onwards benefit.

argh, for some reason I misread the engine number previously and smugly told myself that mine had the newer IMS

looking again, I realise it hasn't, so I'm back to reminding myself about the options for those of us that are 'less endowed' in the IMS department

at 93k miles, with a healthy clutch, and a magnetic sump plug (which is examined annually and shows no swarf at service) what would the considered wisdom advise?

stick or twist?

997 Carrera S 3.8 with engine numbers from M97/0168509790 are the new IMS design.

Hi Phil,

So if I may please confirm for the avoidance of doubt,

The below engine (3.6) number would have the later and larger IMS ?

69508806

695 08806 is after 695 07475 so will have the latest IMS bearing.
