IMS oil leak + oil cooler leak.

Thanks again :worship:

some advise where I can buy decent spring clamps?

If no one's answered one of your original questions, then yes I would recommend doing the AOS while you have access. Its a cheap part relative to the labour charge or your time of needing to do it separately.

I had to have it done when mine failed, and I still resent it deeply. Its a pointless part, put in the most stupid place. But I digress.

I would also have a look at the brake lines over the engine, if the engine is dropped.

If you mean the ones that go around pipes ie coolant then either a jubilee clip or get genuine Porsche ones ... some of which have been superceeded to jubilee clips .

I have some jubilee clips and these are rubbish, any manufacturer??

I don't have luck with bolts.....oil cooler 3 bolts out without any problem last one on back broken I have tried to hammer it 3/8 socket on it but there is not much space to :pc: , AOS rusted badly

So as for today AOS and oil cooler will wait for next winter unless coolant start leak badly then engine out.

I use the spring clamps rather than jubiless clips, I prefer the clamping action of them, even if the tube does 'give' a bit with time it wll still be clamping with decent force. Porsche do supply a lot of jubilee clips instead these days so I buy Mikalor clamps online.

Hi,

I have some sort of internal discussion with myself about my car and incoming trip to Europe in Porsche, so decide I will take engine off the car, just bought today jack so tomorrow visit in Bolton pickup some parts and will try take it off wish me luck!!!

I took mine out a couple of weeks ago. I was suprised just how easy it was TBH. More a fear of the unknown than anything else.

MC

im not going to wish you luck .. you dont need it .. but i will say .. be safe .

car on axle stands .. put your wheels under the sills .

make sure the engine is balenced before undoing the x4 retaining bolts .

i know its obvious ..... i know you know what to do .. but i still worry !

seperate ..

i had the misfortune to watch a video of a car coming off a ramp not long ago .. i can honestly say it upset me .. the mechanic was killed .

never underestimate how heavy these cars are .. and once again .. you already know .. but im back to worrying .

so firstly - I'm in one piece no limbs missing :D

I took off engine or didn't, .......where to start :?

it took me around 2h check fuel lines as I was following bentley manual, but mine is 2003 C4S so no fuel lines at injector rail, only 2 lines on top :wack:

I didn't realize how big this engine is so car is too low engine on floor but still trapped,

engine mount's - Halfords spanner snapped tomorrow I will visit them with life time warranty in my hand, so I took cheap 18 rounded spanner cut one side of it stick 1m metal bar on it and..... one side done, snapped on another, but make it loose just a bit so I was able to use reasonable tools to finish the job, CRAZY

I'm so happy I decide to take it off as there is more problems to deal with, power steering oil dirty so this one have to be replaced I need instruction how to do this hmmmmm do you know anyone :) , oil dipstick pipe I would not call it "rusted" more likely not existing, so from where I'm now it is only closer to back on road

I just realized gearbox is upgraded, and mine tool in action.

overall experience I would say - "you have to do it once in your life so rewarding"

From small IMS job to BIG JOB

Officially Porsche is on SORN  yesterday worked on my car till 23:45, rusted bolts are nightmare for this car. I will add more pictures today/tomorrow.

More and more new parts are need it at least when I finish engine will be hopefully sounded.

I have a question for you guys fuel rail O/S rusted and leaking, N/S meaby will last few more months so I need fuel rails, I can't find any for 996 but there some for 997 from pictures looks "almost" the same:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Injectio...=item4b52d81090:g:ggEAAOSwFYZbzjcu:rk:20:pf:0
will these fit without any problems?

or any other option how I can sort these out please. :?:

iI have just recently changed my fuel rails they are 1 piece item joined by rubber fel pipes , seems to becoming a more common problem with age , they are not cheap from Porsche luckily i managed to win a new one from ebay , worth checking injectors as well , just to add to your ever growing list

I got quote from Porsche £431.60 but on Porsche diagram looks differently then what I have on my car.

I can't find any on ebay will try later in Europe.

It is look like these will be worst nightmare to 996 owners, ADVICE - if yours rails working take them out clean from rust on back and paint it.

First off .. :worship:

Excellent job .. im not a big fan of doing this sort of job with a ramp and a lift table .. let alone on your back with stands and jacks !

Site i use for parts .. but only on here as we have a parts guy at work ..

https://www.deroure.com/diagrams.asp

You have the same coolant pipe tool set that i have !! .. i have a few snap on items but that kit covers most things .

Engine mounts .. a breaker bar , an extension and an 18mm socket .. not much a 4 foot bar cant get undone :)

All in all though .. impressive work :thumb:

Thank You for cheering!!!

So....... this engine will not give up easy, from one problem to another :frustrated:

After removing all broken bolts/parts I decide to remove thermostat and water pump and as you will see on pictures one bolt snapped  since is behind engine mount+exhaust pipes another job was added, and as my luck with bolts, 2 bolts holding pipes in place snapped = removing (read "cutting") pipes and engine mounting....why not since I haven't got anything better to do but this is not over not that easy, I decide to drill bolt out and guess what...drill snapped at end of bolt (entire length) so now bolt is in engine and is super HARD as drill was top quality. I did try to drill with bigger drill bit but now it will take me 2 weeks to do this.
I'm lucky enough this is bolt not in engine block but next one to thermostat so my plan is drill around bolt with small bit and fit larger bolt with nut.

Please take a look on oil cooller and it is after cleaning should take picture before, coolant was already mixing with oil BAD DESIGN.

I do not give up easily but today my face said a lot of bad words

Good news for today new/used fuel line cost me £50 now I need find courier from Poland, speaking about fuel line please please and please check yours guys/lady's as these will leak just above headers I do not have to say it but I will petrol+high temperature=FIRE

Let the pictures speak for themselves.
