This advert caused a little choking on my lunch. Surely this must be from a biased sample of cars;

"We are getting to the point now with Gen 1 997s that 80% of the cars we see have some form of bore scoring that will eventually need an engine rebuild to rectify hence the amount of cars on our website with rebuilt engines.

Gen 1 997s are an absolute joy to own and drive marred only by the bore scoring issue however once the engines are rebuilt with modified liners they are bullet proof."

Oh no, Simkin, that's torn it! Just when the thread was showing balance and being all friendly! GMG will be along soon to agree with the "997.1's have an engine made from cheese" quote. Others will then chime in with "my 997.1 has been to Jupiter and back, twice, no problems...." and before you know it, the thread will resemble a Venezuelan stand off.
Now, where's that popcorn emoji?
 
Hmm, so a car salesman selling a car with a recently rebuilt engine is suggesting that if a car doesn't have one it is not very good, and will need one soon. I'll have to think carefully about how much weight I give to his opinion on the matter.

How dare an independent Porsche dealer with 30 odd years experience proffer an opinion on the marque; especially prior to and without seeking validation from the omnipotent insight of this forum...

What can this dealer possibly know about 911s ?

Steve, my 997 for sale, minty, loads of paperwork and 46k from new.

The dealer notes the engine from this particular car was rebuilt by Porsche, are they fitting modified liners akin to the specialists out there like Hartech?

I'd like to see where the 80% statistic is sourced from. I saw a lovely 997.1 C4S in Guards Red with black rims. In the sunlight of today, how could you not like it.
 
As a business model, no problems if they want to protect themselves with selling Porsches with rebuilt engines albeit I suspect a niche market. And I can see why some dealers demand a healthy margin in the cars they sell especially if they are offering their own in-house warranty.

However, its a strange sales tactic to offer the kind of statements they have based on a % nobody can verify.

I have owned two 997s now, both on the higher mileage side (75k sold 4 years ago and my latest now on 86k) both PPI'd with bore checks that indicated no signs of wear.

Maybe they are unlucky with the cars sellers are offering them?

According to that advert it's sourced from examining the cars that they are offered.

Portiacraft have been around a long time and have a good reputation for sales and service.

I've heard other Porsche specialists say that they turn away a lot more 996s and Gen1 997s than they accept.
