The Silver Bullet-Resto Project

Gazc2 said:
cheers :D its unusually mild so not too bad, sure it wont be long before your next project , any joy selling the 914 ?

A couple of messers but nothing serious.I'm sure when spring comes I will want to keep it
Had some amazing drives out this year with the top down..

Great to see have bested that torque tube our kid :thumb:

We were meant to be going to visit family today however one of the kids was a bit peaky, which meant I got some time in the garage and buttoned up the torque tube to the gearbox then stuck it in the car had my 18 year old son giving me a hand, all went tickety boo so a bit of a milestone getting that complete :thumb:

Good day in the cave today, beam and suspension back in the beam took a bit of fiddling to get the bolts lined up however all good.

You going a bit lower Gaz? Good time to drop it down a wee bit!

so go most of the brake system refitted today however cant quite remember how the handbrake cables all go they are basically cable tied to the beam however there is a bracket that I`m not sure if the ferrulle is meant to come through and the retain it with a clip (like a brake line ) or is it just the cable the pet diagrams don't help and cant find any pics on line.

so if anyone has any pics :thumb:

here is the bracket

Ian, I will need to see where it ends up after putting the torsion bars and beam back together I`m hoping it will be ok not sure I can face stripping the whole back end out again to set the bars however I do now have adjustment on the spring plates as everything is freed of and adjustable so hoping that will be enough to get it right :thumb:

Managed to find a picture on the tinterweb of the handbrake set up,what was throwing me off was my powder coating was stopping the ferrule getting through the bracket so a bit of a file and got both through and retained them with an e-clip

Not many logs left either Gaz. You'll have to get the chainsaw out

update

Ok so a bit of an update, we didnt open the engine we found a fair bit of oil in the intake manifold and attached gubbins with the problem being the AOS seals now we changed them first time round however the main one on the bottom was hardly sealing. When I came back from the mot station when I parked up there was a pretty bad oil leak which turned out to be the main crank seal so that was changed.

so it was banged back in :thumb: ended up with a misfire which is now sorted suspect poor connection somewhere as after we cleaned and sprayed all the contacts success and it is sounding and running sweet as a nut with the drivetrain also now silent after replacing the torque tube bearings so that's all the good news.

Now the bad news after totally stripping and restoring everything on the back end I always new resetting the torsion bars was going to be fun so the end result is I am now lower than Chris the lowest 964 in the North east and pretty much uneven and slamdunked

so it will need to come back off again to set the bars which is a bit of a pain however will come off a lot easier second time :D
