I''m back in a 911!!!.. 996 C2 project begins.

As Graham says, it's a bloody nightmare selling anything (another reason I'm too-ing and fro-ing over selling mine).

As Alex says Classified is the best. Slightly higher listing fee of about £20 iirc, but when someone comes to view, importantly 'before" bidding or making an offer, as some folk won't have time in an auction, then if they buy it you just cancel the listing and avoid any final sale fees.

So many chavs and dumbo's out there texting exactly the type of thing you've shown above. Unfortunately 996s are right in that territory due to them being the cheap mans 911. :frustrated:

There's no other option when selling though if you don't want to give it away.
Stick at it. :thumb:

Classified is for 28 days and £14.99 and open to anyone, not just trade.

I'm sure there are loads of people who spend all day long just typing low offers into their phones.

If one a month comes off they can make an easy couple of quid. You just have to ignore them.

You can expect a 996, especially a recorded car to take a while to sell. Stick to your guns as some one who knows their onions will come along sooner or later!

I made a business out of it. I'd bid on 100 items a week, win 10 on average and re-sell on a BIN for a 50% (minimum) mark-up. Kept me busy for 5 years and bought me a 996.

The Aston in that link looks very good value! They are outrageously good to look at too aren't they!?

I've heard nothing but tales of regret from people buying them though, am I alone in this? I ask as if what I've been hearing is wrong then I'd consider a vantage too if my turbo ever sells. :dont know:

Front engine rear wheel drive with a very solid engine.
Clutch change runs at £1600 up to 2k for the uprated version so not killer and there are a surprising amount of owners that work on there own cars which is good.

I think its a classic case of early owners being bent over and lubed up by the main dealers which propogated these stories.

The clutch and paintwork are the weak links for a V8V. I'd be surprised to get a clutch change for 1600... the lowest quote I got was over 3k (3 years ago)! Make sure you thoroughly check the paint for bubbling, bottoms of doors, mirror stalks, roof gutters, door handle surrounds. They may be mostly aluminium but oxidation is a bitch!
I don't regret owning mine one bit though.

Oh, and try to get a 2007MY+ car with the improved seats, LEDs in the door handles etc. The older seats will eventually get a "ribbed for your pleasure" look where the heating elements show through the leather.
Don't expect a clutch to last much more than 30k miles either. Mine was at 62k miles on original clutch and that was deemed impressive by specialists (motorway miles before I bought it).

Here's my old one. Still for sale with the trader who bought it from me over 2 years ago!

Thanks for the advice. How much did he give you for it if you don't mind me asking?

I bought it from a trader for 31k at 7 years old, included in the deal was respraying both sides and the front end. Owned it for 2 years and 2 months (and 12k miles) and sold it to that guy for 28.5k (after trying to sell privately for a couple of months). He initially advertised it at 33k and has dropped it a couple of times!

Issues I had were electrical related such as the car totally dying on me with all dashboard lights on - thought to be a battery issue so that was replaced. Also the fuel gauge would randomly drop to zero sometimes then slowly come back to where it should be.

I'd have another one someday.

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate that.👍

No problem!

No need for a gundo hack or aftermarket exhaust with these, just pull out fuse 22! I think it's fuse 19 or something on 4.7 cars.

Good luck on the hunt! :thumb:

I believe so and you can even buy a keyfob to control the valves and the controller fits into the fuse 22 socket.
About 70 quid I think.
