1995 993 Carrera Buying Advice

Despite visually looking epic (except no washer delete and wrong seata), take slight offence to the Borders 'drives like an RS' comment in the ad as this looks to be more of a visual tribute to an rs:
- no varioram
- no 3.8 engine
- sunroof weight!
- h&r suspension...you'd want more details, might not be high-end
- no rs clutch
- no rs flywheel
Is that really going to drive like an rs? unlikely. Not that you'd expect to build a proper rs tribute for £80k....

Cameron car is a forum members car. Grey interior will hold it back.
Borders RS rep has been around a long time and i'd wager that the wheels are not even Tramonts, more like single piece Veloce (£800/Set). Baggy seats and ditch finder tyres also do it no favours! £50k car IMO.

I'm actually considering the RPR car.
For -
Clean, straight, 6 owners, genuine RS kit, Giken LSD, KW coilovers with RS top mounts, Wayne Schofield remap. All mods I welcome. Especially the suspension.
Against -
Mileage, non-VR, wrong seats, cheapie one piece wheels, mish mash of dark blue trim with some black bits and needs some paint to be mint.
Peter has had it for 2.5 years. I know Peter and have bought from him before as well.
I can have a discount of which I won't state the figure publicly. :wink:
I'm mulling it over this week and maybe viewing at the weekend or next week to see if it fits the bill.
I'd want to change the interior to all black and source some proper RS wheels eventually.
No air con by the looks of it from the control panel. Massive issue that as I've a 3 week road trip through France and Italy in August.
Any opinions anyone, feel free to pm me if you're bored enough. All feedback welcomed so feel free.

If you are in the market for a 993 and not shy about opening your wallet I would NOT be looking at high end dealer cars. All the dealers have one thing in common. They are in business with intent to make a profit. I don't condemn for that but on old cars like these, you aren't getting a bullet proof no quibble 3 year warranty. You are paying a big fat premium to own a car likely bought from an enthusiast. Thus, my advice, cut out the middle man.

Borders & RPR car have both been for sale for some time... Both RS lookalikes and both not done particularly well aesthetically IMO. RPR car has some nice, well chosen mods but I guess its sticking around due to the colour scheme, the interior being particularly marmite. If bought at the right money then £3-4k should see a Black interior in there which would improve the car 100%.
As mentioned in the thread, enthusiast owned & forum user cars would undoubtedly be the preferred option. Dealers have the advantage with warranties and easy finance but PPI's would be a must.

Odd car that Border Reivers one. Non vram but has the vram a/c pipes in the engine bay. Those seats look a mess, no radio, Rennline lower dash and those horrible dial surrounds. There is no way it will drive like a genuine RS, more likely somewhere inbetween. It will not have 3.8 vram midrange torque. Closest ones I've seen are Jackal's and one 9m did several years ago. Yes the RS flywheel is the 964 RS one not 993. It's a quite nice 993 with 8k or so worth of bits (resale) so about 20k overvalued imho.

Loved the car to bits and never wanted to sell it, but building project required some cash :sad:
The car is in great condition and almost faultless. Tiny oil leak from one of the rocker covers, so needs a new gasket. Chassis rails done...details on this forum, suspension done by Centre Gravity using Koni FSD's, clutch master & slave cylinders replaced and DOT 4, braided hoses, no rust around screens, perfect interior, almost like new! C4 engine mounts. Need new gas struts on engine lid, as they are a little weak.
All services in my ownership done by OPC Cardiff (8yrs) others by recognised specialists and main dealers.
