Hi all

Can the Bose amp be substituted for an aftermarket amp? ..

The Bose amp on my 04 plate C4S has packed in and its either £630 to repair, or £900 for a new one, trying to source a 2nd amp has so far been fruitless.
Im not really wanting to upgrade headunits either tbh.

Thanks.

You can pick up used ones for under 200 on eBay or try the specialist breakers, douglas valley/9apart.

You could probably replace it with an aftermarket amp but I imagine it's a bit technical..

Basically its a MOST amp .. so fibre optic .. you would need to get something similar .. if not then its an awfull lot of wiring to do .. whilst i would enjoy it .. i think most people wouldn,t .

Tried them all and nothing. Thanks though.

I've been looking to have my AMP fixed but haven't got round to it yet.

I was given a highly recommended contact in Edinburgh might be worth a try.

PM me and I'll send you the contract number.

My gen1 had fibre cables but was not Bose but I did need a MOST interface when swapping the head unit to Alpine and I fitted a Rainbow beats AMP it all worked fine. :thumb: you just need to decide where you putting an aftermarket amp , I was ok on the 997.1 as I had removed all the nav DVD etc so it fitted perfectly in the place under the plastic covers in the trunk. they do make Amps that fit under seats . :thumb:

The other option is these guys for a repair, I sent a BMW system to them years ago very quick return and top job :thumb: they repair amps as well as PCM

Roddy,

Just joined this forum and saw your post.

There are a number of audio companies out there that will say they can help you.

Advise you need, should come from a "Four Masters" installer, you can visit their site and will provide you with your nearest installer.

When visiting mine, there were able to confirm straight away that I had the later optical wiring, and would need an interface to make other non Porsche/Bose products work, even though my option code list said I had an analogue system! Although the 996 wasn't listed with an interface a Cayenne one works (it was the test bed for most systems..before they trickled down to the 911/Boxster)

Hope this is of help.

Hi Alan
Thanks for the tips.
I gave Four Masters a call and they said that due to the system being fibre optic it would cost a a lot, £700 and that before buying the amp etc.

I did manage to get the original amp fixed, but many thanks for your help.

Thanks again

Hi Phil.

I have that company a bell and they could fix it at a cost of £630, with a new one being £900 I left it.

Thanks though.

Hi mate

I tried every breaker and no joy. They all said they fly out the door as soon as they are off the car.

I managed to get the old amp repaired though so thanks for your help
Mate.

As per PM, all good :thumb:

Many thanks.

Great news, I'm glad to hear my contact came good and it was repaired at such a low price to what you were previously quoted.
