Hi guys
have noticed the volt meter is moving around at tickover, thinking it might
be a loose belt.
Moving between 13 and 14 volts goes up to 14 normal running.
Any other suggestions
also can the diode pack be bought separately or does it mean complete alternator.
thanks in advance.

Steve

If the belt is loose it means either a pulley is collapsed or tensioner is stuffed, loose belt would make a noise usually.

Voltage regulator is a common issue. Alternator needs to come out to change it. It's a £25 part for a good non Chinese one.

Alternator not a difficult job, you just need to press out a bush a small bit so it goes back into the frame easily. DONT SMACK IT WITH HAMMER which is suggested on line sometimes.

Plenty of info on here.

Ignore the cluster gauge .. you need a volt meter on the battery to prove there is an issue .

Check the voltage on idle with nothing turned on .. no loads in other words ..

Them do the same check but with all loads turned on .. so main beam , heated seats , hazards etc etc

Full load and it needs to be above 13 volts to prove the alternator / main lead is ok .

Post results if needed .

Thanks guys will let you know the results of the check.
