Distributor refurb

Hope that makes sense, and i haven't taught you to suck eggs

Jack D[/quote]Thanks for the clear explanation. Sounds similar to my 1964 Land Rover where I've removed and replaced the distributor without a
problem. I will give it a go - so far I've done no maintenance on the 993, having left everything to Cameron Sports Cars in Bath to handle. The only thing I've done so far is buy the Bentley manual. It needs to start earning its keep

Hopefully the link below will work.
I was going to attempt the work myself, Replacing the belt is doable, but I knew more was needed, and to be honest, when there's people like Diddi who can rebuild these with his eyes closed, why attempt it ?
His costs are more than reasonable, just look at the cost of refurb units from eurocarparts, design911. It's a no brainer.

@all,.....never knock under the secondary (2.) Distributor when disassembling !!!

What's the best way to get the dizzy out? I've tried an impact puller with a strap but no joy. Glad I didn't wack the secondary like that.

Either pulling helps and shaking back and forth, or one helps with light blows, e.g. with a rubber hammer, until it "comes". Attention: The distributor housing is die-cast and not really resilient. In case of brute force it will break or tear. So: patience! I

spray with WD40 (2 days before) beforehand also helps !

or use a screw clamp - place the angle under the DZV and tap on top - always with Feeling !

ive read posts where they've had to remove the fan and then use a pry bar to lever the dizzy out.
What makes it hard to remove is the rubber seal that is on the shaft, spraying wd40 will work it's way down to the seal and help release it.

.....after spraying with WD-40, keep this angle under the dizzy and carefully beat it up - good success, perfect is a slide hammer !

WD40 can make rubber seals a bit more grippy(and swell), Silicone lube works best when rubber and metal parts need to slide around.

jev911uk, that's right, I always use a new o-ring, you can get it here:

thought id be clever over the weekend and lift the car up, put it in gear, then turn the wheels to get the engine to the timing marks so I can remove the distributor. turns out I don't understand very well how differentials work ! (turning one wheel spins the other in the opposite direction and trying to turn both simultaneously was beyond the strength of me and my helper). no way could I get the engine turning in this situation.

presume you guys who have removed the dizz have managed by putting in gear and rolling the car back and forth (while on the ground) ?

....... take 3rd gear and rolling the 11er b&f - or turn the fan wheel - put on gloves !!!

Turn the engine over by turning the crankshaft pulley (clockwise) use a socket and breaker bar, or off set ring spanner, in neutral and handbrake off !
