Thought I did well at £24.99! Mine failed on the first drive home on the final 12 mile stretch much to the amusement of my mate who I'd stopped off to visit, after driving through all conditions for ~600miles. A few technical taps got me home then a quick strip and solder repair and it's been fine since. Spare now sits in the glovebox for the next time

So own up how many of you have gone and bought one?
I only bought it after questioning the mech from the local Porsche specialist whilst the car was having a service on Thursday. He said that although the car only has 59k miles you never know when it may fail.

DME Relay

Have never understood how something as vital and important as the DME relay is to a Porsche should seem so unreliable.

All very well to say carry a spare but surely that's masking some sort of design issue still after all these years? Not very Germanic!

I've got a solid-state one from the US - but still carry an 'ordinary' spare I know to be good (when I last tried it)...

I ignored the warnings and felt very silly when the dme Relay died on a hot day in rush hour traffic in central London a few years ago leaving me stranded.. Then when recovery truck arrived I also found I had no towing eye..

I do not know if the DME relay in my car has been replaced in the past but it shows as 'Made in Hungary" The latest one states made in Germany, will this make it more reliable?

What a great resource this forum is, I had not heard about this potential weak point relay. I'll get a spare.

Hi Allan, would you mind sharing a link if you have one? I can only find an aftermarket item with a different part number on carparts4less. Thanks.

Stuart, I ordered the OE Quality part and the one received was as in the picture. Still active discount code applicable dropping the price to £12.78.

Sounds like the way forward. Source?

DME RElay

Got mine from

Focus 9 Technology, 5350 W Bell Rd Suite C-122, Glendale, AZ 85308, USA

through a friend of a friend. Unfortunately, they do not ship to the UK - or didn't when I got mine. Cost was under $50 all in.

If and when it fails you are going nowhere, educated 944 Turbo owners carry a spare in the glovebox :damn: :damn:

Cheers for the info and reminder!! After years of playing DME roulette, I ordered one as I've been lucky and I'm sure it would let me down at some point??
