I planned to take the tips offf the exhaust in the morning and give them a good clean and polish. I've soaked everything in WD40 in the hope they will come off easily, but i'm sure the grinder will come out...

I've read that even with the clamps off they can still be a pig to remove so wondered if anyone had any 'tips' To make it easier.

Also cleaning before polishing... has anyone tried oven pride, the stuff you put in a plastic bag and soak.
 
Soak the bolt area and pipe with WD40 overnight and should come off easy, if not use a rubber mallet and it will definetly come off without damage!! Once off put them in hotwater for a proper clean up using a brush then get them polished as below !! :thumb:

I soaked mine in one of those bag things overnight and tried just about everything but in the end I had them re plated, cost about £70 and worth it imo. My tips came off easy :thumb:
 
I have found in the past that a metal punch on the clamp side and hitting top and bottom works .. as does heat .. hot air gun will do .

Need to have the car raised to do this though ... i have a ramp :)
 
I blasted the clamp area with WD over night and the next day with a lot of wiggle it came off!

Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle :D

The replacement ones need to fit over the ring / sleeve

Use lots of gentle taps with wooden or rubber mallet, once is on stand back make visual adjustments so it doesn't look wonky.

And tighten up :thumb:
 
After putting mine back on, even at maximum tightness, they were still loose. Thankfully a kind forum member and a coke can came to the rescue. :D
