Oil sump removal question

Hi,

I'm planning to remove my 997.1 C4S oil sump for a visual inspection and clean.

Is there room enough under the car for me to do this on the ground, as I don't have the luxury of a lift?

Thanks

Paul

Unless you've an unusually flat head, unlikely.
Or a pit, jacks or axle stands?

Suspect it'll be a pig without those.
I'd speak to a good indy.

:agree:

No chance on the floor but perhaps you mean jacked up on stands .. on the floor :)

In that case yes you can , yes you probably will get covered in oil but you will get it off .. what you will acheive though is not much .. very little to see inside and if you are after checking for metal then just drop the oil filter and cut it open .. thats the best way .

If its dirty in there then you do have a problem .. as they dont get dirty.

Only time we drop them at work is for leaks and thats not often .

Thanks for the advice. Always happy to be talked out of a job :D

I had some shiny bits in my last oil drop, but the filter was clean, and so
was the magnetic drain plug, leaving me confused. However, there is a
possibility I already had crap in my oil drain pan. I'll just do another oil/filter
change in a couple hundred miles.

Sounds like a plan.
Fwiw, i think Millers oil do an oil analysis. You're best doing that when its had a few miles on - at the annual change perhaps.
Think it was c.£50

Oil change

So, resurrecting this thread, I've just done an oil change after 300 miles
as I wanted to see what was what.

My filter was completely clean, the magnetic sump plug had picked up
a very fine layer of wear, but there were some shiny bits left in the bottom
of the oil pan.

The thing I'm confused about, is why there are none of these in the filter?
