Another one - what do you think?

Hi Jon. :bye:

I knew it was someone's on here still. Apologies for not remembering who.
Who owns what often gets a bit blurry.

I hope you're still enjoying that cracking car. :thumb:

Oh and Paul, I totally get that point of view, but it's not just the engine you own. I think I'd take more sneaky peeks into the garage if a 964 was in there, rather than a GT3. Even though an aerokitted 996.1 is still a lovely thing.

Plus as a road car a 964 is all I'd ever need really. Had a 964 C2 then Turbo, then the GT3. Turbo is the car I'd have back but, in the words of Austin Powers, that train has sailed.

Yeah I got very lucky with it really! A friend and I had been planning what I should do with a 996 and I'd seen one in black with savannnah that I thought looked retro cool and basically we listed all the stuff to do to one and then Steve's came up for sale! Essentially exactly what I'd planned!! Still hasn't stopped me spending at it mind you!!!

Money aside I'd have my 964T back tomorrow, but the value of it became an issue in the end. The 996.1 C2 that replaced it is way off in terms of ownership enjoyment, despite being a better performing car in most departments. I'm sure a GT3 would be nearer but for similar money I'd rather have an nice old air cooled 3.2 and just potter about.
:)

I passed an IB car yesterday (heading the opposite direction to me on the A272), it's size (and the size of all of the cars that share that shell) always impresses me - so much more room to place it on the road than the modern stuff, especially the 991 which is like a minibus in comparison.

Hmm looks like they have just reduced the 996 by a fair chunk - desperate to get rid of it or so it would seem.

I've had a quick check for specialists in the area to get a PPI completed if the car it satisfactory when I go and have a look and the closest I can find is Northway.

Northway have a good "no nonsense" reputation. They'll see you right.

An inspection should reveal all. Whether it has just been the interior putting people off (I doubt that's the only reason), or whether there is something else at play. Hopefully not, but maybe just a gap in the service history or something, who knows.

I hope it's a good'un as it will make a great car if so.
Just remember that just because rads and waterpump aren't leaking, suspension isn't knocking and coil packs aren't misfiring, it doesn't mean they aren't all due a change. It depends on your approach as to how much it them costs you.

Some owners are happy if things just aren't actually broken, but others, like myself, want everything to be tip top.

I'm sure Northway will advise. :thumb:

Thanks both - yes Northway is still a fair trek though (1 hour / 40ish miles) so I guess the dealer might not be prepared to take it to them.

Well I will give it a good looking over and check the history, can then ask what they think about a PPI and can walk away if they aren't interested.

It's a good test - if they won't allow a respected Porsche specialist to look the car over then you know you should walk away.

Same here.
If the problem areas haven't been addressed then you need to assume that at some stage, possibly during your ownership, they will.
If you are handy with the spanners certain jobs are DIY.
Considering the mileage and the unusual interior it needs to be in decent shape to be worth what they are asking. IMO

Would the company called Porsche Inspections (formerly Peter Raby until he retired) be a possible alternative as they are a mobile inspection service, or do they not undertake borescope inspections? - at least it wouldn't inconvenience the dealer & they'd also apparently check the service history. I'm guessing the red 996 will most likely be due a major service, though at £12,930 it surely won't hang around long now (even with the ruffled Savannah interior & being a C4!) BTW, the MOT history doesn't relate to the registration shown in the pics.

£12930.... They have just lopped £3k off the price. Hmmm. Tread carefully.
Proper inspection needed.

Yes set alarm bells ringing in my head when I saw the price drop. I have the original registration - it is revealed when you hit the contact button on their website.

Last 3 x MOTs passed with no advisories.

Weird thing on the HPI check I ran is that it changed number plate 3 x times at the end of 2017 with last change of keeper in 2017.

Wondering if it is worth a 2.5 hour drive (120 miles) now on Saturday morning...

Not going to waste my time on this one - asked for more information. There are no invoices with the vehicle only the stamps in the log book. The last service was done at 89,000 miles which according to the DVLA was in 2015. So no service in 3 years...
