Yeah, I've been thinking of SORNing mine.

Will the 993 still be taxed until the end of Sept or does the SORN come into effect immediately and do they refund the month pro rata?

You may as well get another couple of weeks out of it - they'll refund you from October onwards.

Update: car has been SORNed Grin

So after every good intention of running the car a little this year...... I've not Rolling Eyes ...... Despite being road taxed all summer its had one drive for a service, one short drive for an MOT, short drive for the wheels to be done and washed once and thats it. I guess I might have done 100 miles this year. To be fair that was mainly down to the magnificent summer we have had and the Boxster GTS. The 993 is great fun but not in hot weather compared to a convertable as good as the BGTS Thumb

I was due to take it for a nice run to Manchester for the 911UK meet last Saturday but I just could not do it in torrential rain nooo ..... so I've given up for the year and SORNed it. At least then I don't have to worry about not driving it Grin

Rumour has it with so little use it will be going up for sale soon.

I've a wedge of dough (not as much as last year as we're on the downward side of the bell-end curve) burning a hole in the bag Thumb

I'm under pressure from SWMBO to get a massive extension we don't need, plans are being drawn up for planning (which I may have to put an objection in for)

It may be the stamp collection or a car to help fund it Rolling Eyes

I'll sell the stamp collection first Grin

I've been collecting stamps since I was 15, the collection is insured for more than the cars combined Bandit

I hope you do better than my father did when he came to sell his stamp collection.

He’d been collecting since a teen and sold just a few years ago. Loads of rare stuff and every first day cover etc. Collection going back to the late 50’s.

Turns out stamps are completely out of vogue and nobody really wants them Dont know

I thought you were joking about the stamps. That's incredible!! thumbsup
Get a couple of photos of your favourites up if you can be bothered. Must be some cool stuff in there.

The really valuable stuff is in secure storage but its an unusual collection, it includes every stamp issued in the UK since 2000 in unopened sealed envelopes from the philatelic bureau (the post office), in every version (first day covers, presentation packs, print sheets, etc.....) basically I’ve never opened a package they have sent me for 18 years, you can;t get minter than that.
I started collecting when I was 12 (1977 silver jubilee) and back dated to 1965 (my year of birth). That’s when I started collecting the really old rare stuff as a form of saving and just never stopped / had need to cash it in.

Ps I’m joking about selling it by the way, its part of my pension.

Pps I agree about it being out of fashion but I bought well and over a very long time (c40 years) and like they say, they are only getting rarer Grin

Stamp collecting is, like shame, pride and dignity, something that’s dying off with an older generation and from another era. I’ve got an unreasonably large collection of Marvel and DC comics, bagged and boarded from the late 60’s to the early 2010’s when I finally weened myself off.

Ascertaining values via prices asked on Ebay or in specialist shops may give you a warm feeling but private buyers of large collections are thinner on the ground than you may expect.

I've had the collection valued for insurance purposes by two auction houses (both overseas). The demand for a collection like mine is overseas not the UK Thumb

ps I also have an extensive comic collection with pride of place being several mint first gen 2000AD, every issue for 10 years (These where the first I collected from when they where first released and I had the foresight to buy several copies of the first 20 editions new which have been sealed since with unopened gifts). #2 is more valuable than #1 as the free gift is less commonly retained with then. Completely different price market than my stamp collection however as that set is grade 1 mint condition you are talking hundreds of pounds in value (maybe £1k per set for the first 20) whereas I have individual stamp sets worth many times that even at face value Wink
