This thread and other stories I’ve heard got me thinking Scratch Chin

http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?p=1430507

Have Porsche sacrificed holding parts to serve the 100,000’s of 911 owners (and other models) in the pursuit of profit?

What parts are people outstanding? What has been the delay? What have been the excuses offered? And so on.

Please post your experiences below, with as much detail as possible.

Myself and 911UK will take care of the rest thumbsup

Trust me, I’m like dog with a bone. Cool

EDIT, to replace ‘dig’ Duh

Other than the thread you've quoted I know of a few other instances where people are waiting for parts and have been for some time.

My indy was also telling me yesterday of customers with older cars (993/64) who have been waiting for bits for a long time.

Personally, I think its an entirely unsatisfactory situation if people are being left to wait for months. I would expect a delay if a car isn't a current model, but to be left for months on end is terrible.

I would think if you looked closely you would find shortages in all sorts of parts. Try finding a new high pressure power steering hose for a 9*6 - no chance, weeks to wait for it.

I'm sure your 'dig' will have plenty of bones to play with... Thumb

I have on here in recent months read of issues getting OE windscreens , I was told by the OPC that they had grabbed me the last PAX window regulator from Germany.

Some of the out of stock threads are a bit missleading eg 997 sport steering wheel on back order but in truth it will never come back into stock as it was superceeded by a 991 part number for exactily the same part.

3 years ago I needed some diff. pinion gears for my 996. Rose passion (in France) took my order and money only to contact me a week later saying they didn't have the parts and the wait was indefinite (also all the American parts dealers said the same). I contacted Wilmslow OPC who told me 3 weeks if I was lucky. I then contacted Bolton OPC and they responded with no problem, we'll have them in 2 days. When I went to collect I explained to them about the shortage and they just said they couldn't understand the problem. They just put the order in and the main warehouse sent them out. I'm convinced half the time the people ordering the parts don't know what they're doing. Dont know

Trying to get cruise control retro fitted was a similar experience with Indy's & OPC saying it wasn't possible to fit on my model. 2 days later RPM in Leeds had me booked in and fitted it.

Despite the odd delay on parts the back up for the older models by Porsche is pretty much unrivalled.
I waited 6 months for an original instruction manual but that was for a 36 year old 924.
Try to order a manual for an Escort RS2000 from Ford and watch the puzzled look on the parts managers face..

These sorts of competence errors are interesting. I’m curious about the more systemic issues. Such as front diffs for 996 turbos / C4S, 997 turbo repair kits/housings, body panels or other such instances. The exact kind of shortage where a decision has been consciously made on profits over availability

On the ‘classic’ line up I’d agree that Porsche go the extra mile compared to others. Though when the tag line revolves on the 70% are still on the road claim you’d hope so. As mentioned above I’m more interested in deliberate starvation of parts for profit reasons or because of poor production scheduling. The thread that started this involved a a car under 10 years old Surprised
