2011 Porsche Cayman 987

PostPosted: Tue Sep 11, 2018 1:46 pm    Post subject: North West Spain recommendations please. Reply with quote

My wife and I are heading for an event in Madrid in a week or so's time. We are staying in Avila and have a week afterwards when we thought we would explore the north and north west area of Spain.

We have never been there and would be grateful for any recommendations on roads, places to visit, accommodation etc. from those that have. Ultimately we aim to fetch up in Santiago and then return following the northern coast back up through France.

(Our route down will be a more eastern track through France, to Carcassonne, then along the Pyrenees and to Madrid via Zaratoga.)

Thank you. J.

What ever you do you must visit San Sebastian. Just stunning and the food is outstanding. Pinxtos are to die for. My 2 cents Thumb

Couldn't agree more with this.

San Sebastian is one of Europe's often forgotten gems, unless you've already been there.
It has more Michelin starred restaurants outside Paris than just about anywhere else.
Which means pretty much all the so called average establishments are on top of their game too. Excellent tapas in many of the bars. September is a good time to go, a great vibe and festival atmosphere.
Wonderful backdrop overlooking the bay, a beautiful place.

I agree with San Seb if you love your food, the view from the hotel at Monte Igueldo is a recommended stop off point.

See below for some roads, there may be something of interest to pick up when near the border of France as this is mostly East.

I can also recommend crossing the border via, D134 Jaca to Pau.
