Many of us can recall times when the asking prices for Porsches that have now become classic were ridiculously low but normally you'd need to refer back 10-20 years to do so.

I've recently been reading some 2011 PCGB 'Porsche Post' magazines and couldn't help noticing the prominent full page Paragon adverts.

Bearing in mind that these adverts were from only 7 years ago.

(1) A 2010 (so only 12 months old) 997 Sports Classic with just 72 miles for £139,995. Even more incredibly this car was advertised for several months before being reduced to £119,995 in the October 2011 edition.

(2) A 2004 996GT3 with 44k miles up for £39,995.

(3) A 2004 996GT3RS with 22k miles up for £62,995.

(4) A 2003 996GT2 with 37k miles up for £49,995 - reduced to £47,995 9 months later (September 2012) at which time there was also ....

(5) A 96/N 993 Turbo with 53k miles advertised at £54,995.

If you'd shelled out £325k for that little collection I wonder what it would be worth now :?:

Selling just the 997SC would have given a decent return on the total investment.

Re: 2011 prices

As a comparison the Paragon advert in the August 2018 Porsche Post had these for sale.

Re the 2004 996GT3 with 44k miles up for £39,995 in 2011 they now have an 03/53 car with 37k miles up for £74,995.

Re the 2003 996GT2 with 37k miles up for £47,995 in September 2012) they currently have a car, admittedly with only 21k miles, up for £149,995.

Re the 96/N 993 Turbo with 53k miles advertised in 2012 at £54,995 they now have a 96/N 74k mile Targa up for £62,995.

Oh, to have a crystal ball

Had you parked the SC up in your living room and spent the next 7 years looking at it........it might now be worth..

Terrible shame but that's a different argument altogether.

Pity that JZM's ad doesn't know how to correctly describe the colour of the interior.
When inviting intended purchasers to shell out the best part of £400k you would think details like that would be correct.

You have got too much time on your hands.

The recent 911Virgin video reminded me of how things were before such 911s became 'collectors items' rather than just cars.

I know that it took Porsche a while to sell all 1,963 50Jahre 991s in 2013 so it seems that things changed in or around 2014 - possibly when the 991GT3 was released. :dont know:

What a difference 10 years makes:
