Belt time?

Just a quick note... a well known specialist advises that the bearings are not currently available. There are bearings being sold for this purpose but, apparently, are just a bit smaller than the originals but can used?

Thanks Diddi,

What is the cost for the replacement parts inc shipping to the UK?

Do you do exchange units? (to save my car being at the Garage for a week or so)?

I sent you a couple of emails, the first one bounced back 'Mailbox unavailable'?? I dont know if the second one got through???

Thanks,
Lig.

I had a seized bearing on my secondary shaft which caused my belt to break.

Used a company out in germany who do work for porsche museum. Found them via ebay.de. No affliation with the company but very happy with the service.

One thing to check is that some of the bearings are very difficult to get, so some companies have a similar bearing modified.

Hi Manners
What mileage had your 993 done at the point when the bearing seized?

..... differently, not driven, wet garage, seen a lot of washing water, about every 8 years, the belt should be changed (CONTI rule!) The Bearings ???? Simply performing a complete maintenance as a preventive maintenance is cheaper than an engine overhaul ...........

......shipping to UK, no Problem !!

This thread had started to make me a bit paranoid, so I have dug back through my paperwork, my car had a new distributor fitted in June 2012 (due to a seized shaft, and broken belt).
so it's since been 6 years and about 20k miles.
So i should be good for a couple of years, and then perhaps belt/bearing replacement?
Cheers
J

As this post has come up again below is a link, if you don't already have it, on how to DIY the distributor. It's from a very helpful Dutch guy (Hans Daman) who's write up I used a couple of years ago to replace my steering rack, very detailed and if you email him for more info he'll come back to you. He recommends Didi for the bearings.

Hi all,

CONTI says every six to eight years the belt should be changed - everyone has to decide for themselves!

For what its worth I just had a look at the service schedule and there is no mention of changing the dizzy belt :dont know: But as Diddi says we have to make our own minds up.
