Hi, Robert Sausage Trousers question and the answers given have provided a lot of the Information I required on my first venture into 911 ownership. The car I will be looking at based on the advice on this site is the 997 Gen 2 PDK cabriolet 2009 onward. My budget is £40k max and my question is "any opinions on a 70,000 miler compared to say a 30,000 in relation to value for money." I intend to use the car for weekends and nice days.

Get a PPI done and research the company, if not private sale, as best you can :bandit:
Post as many daft/silly/already answered (who cares) questions up on here as you can too :thumb:

A 70k mile car will be a lot cheaper to buy than a 30k example but be careful of private sellers not realising the differential that there should be and unscrupulous dealers chancing their arm in the nice weather.
A lot depends upon how much you intend to use the car. If you're planning to do 8-10k miles a year it won't take long for your car to be in the mileage territory that does put a lot of future buyers off. Values of 911s with 90k+ miles tumble significantly.
Personally I'd look for some middle ground. There's loads out there with c50k miles.

Check the history on the car carefully. Plenty of people evidently don't understand service schedules.
Check the condition carefully, but (touch wood) it's quite easy to spot shabby ones.
Get it inspected by a specialist.
If you want to put a warranty on it later, check that only Porsche parts have been used in it servicing/works.
Mine feels great and you'd be pushed to guess its mileage without the odo'.

Johnjoe, Welcome to the forum .I agree with the other comments , condition over miles every time in my book. your budget looks right and as mentioned tap the guys on here for info there are no stupid questions , there will be banter about what are your favorite potato based snack etc . but you will get great feedback from here which hopefully will assist you finding the right car.

Hello johnjoe1, I was in your position a couple of months back (except I wanted a coupe not a cab). I'm going to slightly go against the grain here, since I think mileage makes a big difference to value - both when you purchase now, and if/when you sell later.
That's what I found when looking, anyway.
As mentioned above, once you get near 100k miles values seem to fall steeply (justified or not is another debate). So it depends on how many miles you intend to put on the car.
For me, if I had the choice between a 30k car priced at £42k, or a 70k car priced at £37k I'd go for the lower mileage one - always assuming similar condition for both of course.
Why not compromise and look at a 50k miles example?

It's a very pretty car with lots of extras like BOSE, 2018 Satnav upgrade, Milltek exhaust etc. Just been serviced with new plugs & coil packs etc. But it has 82K on the clock, so possibly a bit too high mileage for you.

Yours is a very pretty car. I can't believe that it's only worth £32k though! I know that mine has much lower mileage but to put things into context for the OP I paid £31k for my 997.1 C2S cab with 28,500 miles on the clock 18 months ago. I think if I were buying now I'd definitely go with a cherished higher mileage gen 2.

What's going to excite you more when you open the garage door on a Saturday morning?
Buy the model, spec and condition you want. I would advise against considering options based on mileage unless your primary motivation is to preserve potential future values.
I say this as someone who (by chance rather than design) bought a 2010 car with 25k miles and spent the next 18 months getting caught up with continuously evaluating the market & worrying about future values. I soon became quite envious of those with their leggy cars who were talking about their endless adventures and future plans. I have since seen the light.
997s will not see the prices our air cooled siblings are now enjoying for some time. IMHO.
Low mileage doesn't equal better car. FWIW I would go Gen 2 and drive the pants off it. :grin:

I think id be choosing the car with the lower mileage all things being equal. Age isn't a big issue both being Gen 2 cars. My car is a 2008 and is immaculate under all the plastics under the car. They are really well built.
If you average it out at 7k miles a year, you'd be into year 6 before your get to the mileage of the 2011 car.
