Anyone know what size 996 door speakers are?

5 inch?

A word of caution!!!

The door speakers in the lower front are *woofers* and as such need a different set of speaker types. If theyre dead, check the amp rather than repalce them - theyre pretty good once you swap out the ancient stock speakers in the dash and rear.

Sound advice 😆

eabeukes is spot on, 'woofers' are bass only, the higher frequencies (most of what you listen to) come through the other speakers.

The speakers you have shown are full range, one speaker to cover all the frequencies. There are other factors too, the speakers have an impedance (similar to electrical resistance) and this determines the loading on the amplifier, you would want a similar value to the current speakers and finally, the efficiency of speakers varies considerably, if the new speakers are too efficient, they will be too loud, too inefficient and.........

Speakers of the same size may also have different fittings, typically but not always 4 bolts and even these may be spaced unevenly.

Best bet is to talk to stick to standard speakers or a local car audio specialist before buying.

There are a number of 986 forum posts on how you can actually fit (vastly more common = cheaper for better quality) 6.5" woofers into the doors with a bit of modification:

I would suggest using good brand speakers all round - the cheap ones are just not worth the hassle of changing them all out - Hertz, Audison, Polk, Rainbow are all great names.

Have you swapped the dash speakers as yet? Those make vastly more difference to the sound profile of the car than the woofers do - so much that I'm thinking to actually leave the woofers for now and do the sub next instead.
