Dan, soory to hear the news mate, I am a bit concerned that after it was inspected only 4 months ago something has happened but until you get it inspected you cant be sure that somethink hasnt broken thats caused it rather than just a shoddy diagnosis of a borescope inspection . but I would after getting the facts then approach the guys that did the PPI and borescope only 4k miles ago the min I would expect was a refund of the inspection cost as they havent done you a good service if it turns out to be regular type boresore as that just wouldnt happen in 4000 miles .
On a positive note you are planning on keeping it for 5 plus years therefore we are talking 2.5k per annum for the rebuild and a few services which equates to quite reasonable running costs to drive a 911 .and as the depreciation is minimal on these cars you wont end up spending any more than you would lose in depreciation over 5 years on pretty much any othe marque. So effectivly giving you 911 motoring for BMW running costs . thats the cup half full answer and is exactilly how I look at 911 ownership. If its any consolation my 997 gen2 has cost me nearly 7k since christmas , gearbox rebuild , full set of coolant pipes , clutch and flywheel, Major Service , and thats without adding on the cost of mods   and I have only had it a year and 12k miles. Still all those bits should now be good for another 60k miles :thumb: :thumb:

I LOVE this answer Phil :thumb: End of the day - im really trying to look for a glass half full answer so that helped. Im also fairly pragmatic after the initial shock like you. Why:

- i LOVE 911s and thats why I've had 4 as daily drivers over 15 years
- Im gutted - who wouldn't be - with wait time car is off road pretty much all summer and its gonna be circa 10k with VAT etc
- she's booked in at Hartech. Im sure there are others but why fkkk about. Had a long chat with them yesterday and they were excellent.
- Im keeping her long term and now the initial Shock has died down im pragmatic. Thats the RISK we ALL take in buying a 29k 911 not a brand new one.
- I dont have much choice do i !!!!!! :pc: :pc: :pc:

NOW - i need a 2k run about which is something I've been thinking about for a while anyway, especially for the 5km train station run. No point taking the 911 on that everyday. Seen a few TTs and Minis that fit the bill but open to suggestions ....

Cheers ALL

Dan

You won't be disappointed Dan. Hard graft, flawless quality, serious knowledge and development & excellent customer service has put them where they are today.

The only Hartech marketing I've ever seen is this 9 years ago (and that was free!):

Have you contemplated the larger capacity upgrade they may be able to offer?

:?:

You only have to read that article to know you've made the right choice.

I applaud your attitude. I'd suggest a first gen MINI Cooper S (the one with the supercharger), which might need some fettling (and 16s or non run flats) but it's a little gem and can easily produce 200hp with a couple of basic mods.

You could try Sid at Porschetorque in Uxbridge, he's rebuilt a lot of engines and is more local than Hartech for you

Definitely worth a call as well

Try not to take it literally, I was just saying if as a business you set yourselves up as the de facto specialist, and everyone reinforces that, then you can charge a bit more.

I've absolutely no doubt they are the best, and have proved it time and time again. Given the choice, I'd use them myself but I'm just saying it is incorrect to say there is no other choice in the market.

:thumb: :thumb: I have had no 911 for nearly 2 months all the lovely spring and early summer  should have it back next week :thumb: good luck finding a nice little runabout and you should have half the rebuild cost saved up by the time you get it back and then you can really enjoy no worries 911 ownership I read an article from Hartech who said they have never had a rebuild engine come back so total piece of mind . I do think we are going to start to see 997s going for a hartech rebuild even if they dont need one just so the owner has an engine thats better than the one from the factory. :thumb:

Mark 1 Toyota MR2. An Appreciating modern classic, £2.5k buys you a decent useable car still, but won't for long. Japanese so doesn't go wrong. Last months (I think) modern classics magazine tipped this as one of their 5 targas to buy now.
