2007 Porsche 997 Turbo

An eventful weekend at the Nürburgring driving RCN3.

A couple of laps after setting our timed out-lap, there was a huge accident between a Porsche 997 Cup and Toyota GT86 near T13 which meant that a ‘Code 60’ flag was shown between Tiergarten and T13 and kept out until the end of the race. The ongoing clear-up lasted until the end scuppering any chance we had of replicating the time on the in-lap, resulting in receiving a penalty which marked us down a few places.

I unfortunately spun the car on someone else’s oil at Steilstrecke and then a big moment at Hohe Acht on more oil. There was a broken down Clio (I think) just before Wipperman, I presume this was the culprit for the oil on the track.

I then encountered poor handling on right hand corners, it was fine on left handers so suspected a tyre or suspension problem. I radioed into the team to report the problem, we decided to stay out at reduced speed and see how things panned out as there were only two laps to go and needed to bring the car home to get my required finish.

I drove those two laps at a moderate speed just praying that the tyre/suspension held out until the finish, luckily it did.

There were 175 cars in the race, 26 in our class and we finished 15th. Very pleased with the result considering the problems we had to overcome, still on target for my licence upgrade in July.

Next race RCN4 14th July.

A good effort if you spun the car but didn't hit anything, top marks for that alone! I can imagine oil being dropped on the Nordschleife is not pleasant to encounter, especially under race conditions.

I must admit it still seems odd to see a driver and co-driver in a car during an active race, is his job to keep regularity like we used to do in road rallies? Took part in a good few of those many years ago in my trusty Mini - great fun!

As ever, keep the forum posted Thumb

Luckily Mike, Steilstrecke is a very wide corner, so the spin was all on the black stuff! Neutral

RCN allows both drivers to be present in the car, this is ideal for us to keep times recorded because the radio can be a bit temperamental at certain parts of the Nordschleife and I need to ensure my licence upgrade in July as VLN booked for August.

hats off you for taking on the Nürburgring Nordschleife in the RCN

What I didnt realise it that it's not using the GP circuit, so it's a proper Ring Lap with their pits and the main car park !

Thumb Thumb Thumb Thumb Thumb Thumb

This is on my bucket list, to race at the Nürburgring Nordschleife
