I first jacked the car up the rear of the car and removed the rear wheels, the bottom ball joints can be got to from underneath, and you can just about get to the top ones with a long brush. I chose to remove the small inner arch covers so that i could also clean out the leaves from the top of the inter-coolers through the blanking piece in the picture below.
(I found a large stone, small stones and lots of leaves so its a good job i looked!!)
With the inner arch covers removed you can easily get to the top ball jointss
