Do you guys that have tried bypass pipes think theres a difference if its a 3.4 ,3.6, 3.8 that its being done to.

if you have spare time have a look at this you tube vid I found of our recent trip to Dinslaken , the boxter in the final 5 was not the loudest but had a nice exhaust note best I have heard on a boxter . some nice exhaust notes all slightly different , and forgive the strange Englishman dressed as Batman lol

That Boxster sounds just like my wife's car! It a world away from the stock muffler sound. But the good thing it is the stock muffler but with the secondary cat material and some sound deadening removed, definitely seemed to rev more freely compared to the original stock setup. If you Norfolk way anytime feel free to come listen/go for a spin to see what you think.
I just about to fit my 3rd Carnewal exhaust (3 different models) personally I like the sound, the fact you using the original super long lasting original muffler too (Boxster one been on the car for 9 years! Gone from 10k miles to 60K) still perfect!

Hi just wondering if anyone has done a muffler delete on a 996? I have seen lots of vids and really do like it, https://www.porscheshop.co.uk/euroc...t3-silencer-by-pass-tail-pipes-1998-2002.html

Hi,

first to be clear I have removed my PSE to repair it....... some day, and for that time I have similar setup like from website for all £20, you can see picture in this post: http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=127213&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=40

now to consider:
1. you will notice drop in torque from start to about 4k then it pulls like a.....PORSCHE with more pony's
2. there is more bass on start up and overall more noise but I don't think is louder then PSE on, as on last meeting few members pay attention to start up and rev everyone was surprise how not LOUD this setup is ask ALEX,
3. sound wise..... somehow it sounds when idling like v8 this is crazy, between 2,5-3,5 rpm it screaming like F1 and it is noisy inside after 4k you are in comfort zone but on long trip I would not recommended as you will suffer from headache or very bad MPG :floor: - I don't mind any problems above as my best MPG so far is 19 and barely use it 4th gear
4. if you do not push hard it is not louder then PSE on low rpm
5. some people like it some not, my wife dislike it and she is only one complain so for myself this only reason is enough to keep it without boxes  . So far all told me to keep it without boxes.
6. as advert says "Significant weight saving"

As for today I was studding exhaust systems for last 3 weeks and if you would like to delete boxes you will have to do it differently for that reason I will do my own exhaust but need some more info.

I can only tell if you would like to remove boxes then you need to check CAT as if CAT-s falling apart it will make funny noise and you will not like it (mine do) I will be speaking next week with manufacturer about steel CAT-s for my car last longer and better flow win win, also this kit from website is not good same as mine to do it right should be long pipe from CAT bend it around in space where boxes are and to tail pipe by doing so you will not lose power and could gain some also should be different noise more refine as you have with front engine cars american V8-s (longer pipe), I have to visit my local specialist and speak with him about my plan and perhaps if money will be ok I will do long pipe to check my theory.

I will record tomorrow (today) with gopro startup on cold engine warm engine will rev it drive it fly it etc. so by tomorrow will be link to red tube :hand: sorry youtube and today I attend sea bath at landudno so if you around find black 996 take a look on rear and wait for me 8) I'm off find my swimming shorts :bandit:

sorry double :pc:

2 types of drivers.

1) muf delete drivers, hard drivers, love speed, love mods, love driving porchse how it should be driven.

2) those that like it stock, quite flat six, that go out once a week to the store and back before they get dirt on it.

As for the assumption on types of drivers, that a little erm... incorrect! It's an assumption that because somebody who dislikes the sound something makes that they then opposed to speed, mods, driving a Porsche properly. Perhaps read the comments I made especially about assisting the development of an exhaust sound on a modified exhaust that sells pretty well!
Like I said it's all individual opinion to what sound is, what is good and what is not. But don't mistake the fact I and others happen to dislike the noise the muffler delete pipes make and the fact it resonates through the whole car with someone who dislikes mods, does not like to drive fast, and doesn't drive a Porsche how it should be driven.
I now on my 14th Porsche, I have have driven many of them all over Europe, vmax'd my tuned 997TT in Germany recording 212mph,
Have done numerous track days in Porsche's and my Clio Cup race car, driven several F1 cars in the past at F1 experience in the South of France and U.K. so I think that ticks the speed box! As for a hard driver, what is that? Someone who has big guns, beats anyone up who disagrees with them, someone with no mechanical sympathy? Or just drives fast?

Porsche's are different things to different people, one person's daily is the nexts concours entry, some are rallied and never washed some are kept pristine but don't make an assumption that anyone type of owner is better, superior or more a Porsche fan than the next one I certainly don't

I happen to dislike the sound of delete pipes for reasons in my original post, but don't Jump to any assumptions as to the type of Porsche owner I am or anybody else as without knowing them how can you possibly be right.

I totally happy for anyone who wants to fit bypass pipes, if that floats your boat go for it. Like I said I got a nice shiny set someone can have once I get my MODIFIED original mufflers onto my car.

Enjoy your Porsche this Sunday, whether it flat out on a road or with the wash mitt!

I have found over the years that exhaust note is a very personal thing, more so than pretty much any other mod. some love the tinny rasp others like more bass, others want the crackles and pops , some want the best note at low revs for cruising others want it quiet at cruising speed and want gates of hell when flooring it. its seems theres no right or wrong just what you like personally. which is why there are so many different systems on the market. all I know is anything is better than the stock non PSE sound that comes from the factory   although I am sure some even like that :thumb:

Or

1) Muffler delete - ASBO chavs who are more concerned about how many people look at them as they drive by, rather than the dynamics of the car. They think louder is automatically better even if the car sounds like an old Ford Sierra with a blown exhaust.

2) Those that like it stock - Perfectly happy with the car as Porsche intended. Too busy enjoying it to be bothered about messing around with the exhaust.

3) PSE or sports exhaust - Those who prefer a bit more fruity sound without having everyone they pass tutting and muttering "*****" under their breath like they do when a bypassed car goes past.

:thumb:

PS. The videos of deleted muffler cars posted so far, don't even scratch the surface on showing how loud it is. It's antisocial and more than a little bit sh*t.

But as I said sometimes we have to find out for ourselves to eliminate the curiosity.

Hi,

sorry it took as long but it is my first youtube video.

Honestly, I wasn't really aware silencer bypass mod was a thing on 996 Carrera, haven't even had one of our franchises do it to my knowledge (and Porscheshop are one of our customers to boot). We get enough trade in's on our loudest 996 silencers with people wanting to go quieter to the mild sports sound that I think i'd be nervous doing a silencer bypass, odds seem high that the customer would change their mind or have buyers remorse.

Not to knock it though, great thing about aftermarket is the customisation.

Awesome video 77szymon. Bet that sounds louder in person!

Szymon , I dont dislike the sound of that at all , nice vid despite mounting the GoPro on your dick :floor: :floor: just as well you didnt drive past any cute girls we would have been looking at your roof lineing :floor: would have liked to hear it being reved from outside but understand thats not easy when your on your own with a penis mounted go pro   :thumb:

I bought mine with the silencer bypass already done, bloody horrendous, total chav fest and unbearable to drive, great for driving around short shifting to keep the noise down, but horrible otherwise.
I fitted the dansk super sounds and they a) sound like a tractor at idle! b) are fine and sporty above idle and driving around towns but c) scream like hell when you really open the taps. :D
I love them but could understand how the poor reliability record and motorway drone could put people off, (i also have the 200 cell cat x pipe, so enjoy lovely pops and crackles as well)

I did some vids when i first added the dansks.

Rich

Big improvement with the Dansk verses the By-pARSE pipes, sounds more like a 911 again rather than a John Deere 👍👍😂😂
