Warranty and Porsche Assist

I am looking for a published price list for warranty extension and can't seem to find the prices and options anywhere on the official porsche site. If anybody knows where to find it could they post a link.

Thanks

I've never seen prices published on line but when mine was renewed in February.

111 point inspection = £180 + VAT = £216 which can be discounted with PCGB discount or when being done as part of a service or at individual OPC discretion.

12 month extension to existing warranty was £1020, 24 months was £1840.

Porsche assist was £169 for 12 months, £275 for 24.

I believe the prices are the same for all 911s but I'm not 100% sure. A phone call to any OPC would confirm and clarify.

Same as quoted to me Terry, getting mine done next Thursday so will ask for the PCGB discount. Thinking of adding Porsche Assist too.

Go gentle

Go gentle please is is my first post on the forum...
So, having dipped my toe in Porsche waters for the first time some 16 months ago with my purchase of a 986S, (I wanted to see how much use I would get from having one) Im getting ready to step up to 911 ownership.
Ive looked at the most suitable thread to pose a couple of questions to those more knowledgeable than me, so rather than start a new thread, this seemed the most appropriate.

So, the car is with an OPC and a 2010 997.2 with a few toys.
They have done the 111 point check and I saw the invoice for just over £4k to put it right, even down to a charge for a couple of bolts!

The warranty is for 2 years, plus 2 years assist.

The add ons they want me to purchase, and I would value opinions on are:
"Gen 3 glasscoat" for £665. This is already discounted by 20%. Is it worth doing on an 8 year old car? The car has some Porsche decals on the side doors, would these have to be taken off, and perhaps re-applied for the coating to be fully effective?

Tyre and alloy protection - £665 - allows up to 8 alloy refurbs and I believe 3 tyres if they blow over the 3 year period. Worth it or not or should I just suck it up if something happens?

Gap Insurance - £500 for 3 years (seems good to me but others may differ)

and lastly, is it worth having the clear wheel arch protectors applied, Ive seen some with, some without and am open minded.

I just now need to get over the fact its about £10K over what I was going to spend, them offering less for my 986 than I wanted, etc etc but when you are in love what can you do!!!

I would be grateful for any advice. Thanks in advance

Unless the car is immaculately detailed before application I wouldn't bother with the 'glasscoat'. I'd spend the same on a professional detail and then keep it as nice as possible myself.

Tyre & Alloy protection Insurance is a rip-off. I've only ever had two punctures and certainly no blow-outs in 38 years of driving. If you're careless enough to damage even 4 alloys in 3 years a refurb of all four will cost less than £665.

Gap Insurance suits some people. Personally I'd only bother if I was paying for a lot of the car on finance.

Wheel arch protection is a personal choice.

ps. :welcome: to 911uk and to 911 ownership. Looking forward to seeing some pics. :thumb:

Welcome :thumb:

These are the items that the sales guy gets more for. So treat with skepticism as all are available elsewhere for less and some are better from specialists (ceramic coatings etc).

I usually let them leave the items in the quote and then pull em out once the "best offer" has been provided, usually once the sales guy has been to his manager at least twice :D

Value of your car will usually be better from independants like those listed on the lower left panel of this page or even we-buy-any-car. They might buy it even though you are not buying from them. Again, leave it in and just call a few and see what offers you get. No issue taking the trade-in out of the OPC deal before signing for the car you are buying on collection day. I have done this in the past.

Above all, its well worth buying the additional items separate to any finance. Sneakey blighters charge 6-9% apr in the OPCs so adding those bits and road tax to the finance is a bit daft.

As T8 says, tyre/wheel isn't really worth it. especially as one tech at my OPC told be they repair 90% of the punctures that come in rather than replacing them.

Good luck with the purchase :thumb:

I'd skip all their extras, sell the P/X elsewhere and shop around for GAP if you want it.

Then get on and enjoy the car.

I agree with Magic919 regarding the extras, probably cheaper to buy elsewhere if you really feel they provide value.

Thanks for the replies guys, its much appreciated.
So, Im looking through the paperwork file they gave me back to value my car (all my old MOT's, service book etc) and notice an extra service book - for the car I am interested in buying

So, having chatted with the finance committee and got the nod from her, I decided to ring them to (a) tell them about the service book but (b) importantly that subject to them giving me another £500 for mine, then we could have a deal, but the manager was away so the message would be passed on.
So, still no phone call. Is it me being just bloody minded but is an OPC really that busy that they can ignore a c.£50k cash deal?
Oh and having looked further on the forum, which is a mine of information, I will be skipping the extras, but will be easily persuaded on the GAP if thats what it takes to secure a deal.
But unless they ring me, Ill take my loot elsewhere...

I doubt they are that busy. Remember they are just as bad as car salesmen anywhere else. I wouldn't expect any special treatment. Just decide how keen you are on that car.

As it's a Bank Holiday Weekend I doubt any management are in. I'd leave it until Tuesday lunchtime before walking away.

Deal done

Deal done, paid up, collected and car now tucked up for the night. Huge cheesey grin all over my face! Never had a red car before, looks awesome. Thanks for the advice.
