997.1 Turbo values?

Hello everyon, I thought I'd share my experience. I bought a MY08 997.1 Cabriolet 6MT 39.5k Miles, Black Roof, Basalt Black, Black Interior with Adaptive Sports Seats from an OPC in April 2017 for £69k. I since spent £2.5k at my local OPC fitting the Sports option (without the wart thankfully), a new round sports steering wheel, hand brake and gear knob. It now has 41.2k mikes on the clock and is still under warranty with a fresh MOT. I was looking to sell to fund a business this month and I was bid £45k from webuyanycar (just to see the below trade value), £47k from my local OPC and £55k from a specialist. There is a very similar Gen1.5 for sale for £69.5k at a specialist.

Even factoring VAT in the resale price I expected more. Thankfully I no longer need to sell, which I'm really pleased about, but still I thought the prices were low given the time of year with cabriolets being in demand. I understand coupes sell for more but I prefer top down driving and I don't track the car. Am I right in my thinking?

No, the prices are not low for this time of the year. It is a great temptation to be seduced by ticket prices on web sites and correlate that to the value of our own car. This simply supports what I have maintained all along when the question of values is asked. The answer is nearly always "less than you think"

Dealer margin, preparation, warranty and cost of any finance by dealer for his stock means ticket prices will always be higher than personal values at part ex or straight cash disposal.

As to coupe cars - generally more in demand. Pool of cabriolet purchasers is smaller. Hence dealer will argue it takes him longer to sell it than a coupe and chips away to lower the valuation, as does the age-old manual v tiptronic box.

I'm off to look at one of these Thursday so fingers crossed.

2 owner car, full OPC history, 45k, special order slate grey, Manual with a decent spec inc sport chrono and a full Kline system.👍🏻

Good luck with it, I hope you go for it, they are such great cars

Turbo

I looked for 6 months, I had a C2 slush box and Nissan GTR

I only really needed one car, sold the GTR privately and traded in the C2. the dealer marked up 8K on the C2 and sold it in a month...

I went for a Cab (easier sell to wife) 997.2 Turbo but I looked at a few 997.1s

Some dealers really over prep them and charge for it, great if its a garage queen but I like driving my cars on the road.....

I saw one low mileage 997.1 that needed new disks, service and a had a hole in the drivers seat. all fixable but he would not move on price and gave a terrible trade in on the C2. he sat on that car for 6months

I decided that I need a PDK after having the twin clutch in the GTR

I've had 3K of repairs done since I had the car the dealer has paid for but it proves I used the car a bit so all the sitting problems developed....

Checking the pipes and turbos on 997.1 is important and getting a good dealer who will fix stuff is really key
IE one that lives by web reviews looks like the safest way.....

I personally don't think the 997T will ever have a collectibility factor.....it sits in the middle of a water cooled generation with no real special attributes....just modernisation.
Take the 996T, the ugly duckling turn swan, the first water cooled Mezger, a milestone in Porsche development.....its a recipe for a classic - the 997T? Not sure I could say the same?

Put those Stella's away

😂😂😂
Just my view I suppose. I personally prefer the 996. Lower stance, more mechanical feel, the little bit of lag reminds you your driving a 911T.

I was reading an article by an expert Porsche valuer that analyses for collectors, insurers, and even main dealers....it's published in the JZM newsletter.
A number of 996's all went through the RM Paris auction at record results highlighting a jump in 996 values and collector desirability.

The 996 Turbo is a great car, it is, I had one for 8 years (reason deprecation, the ugly Duck, and it still is, that will not change) The need to justify a 996 is enough, just get a 997, and don't look back, as I did by the way.

Just cleaning it alone is enough when you buff round the cult oval 911 headlights rather than the fried eggs of the 996. The 997 is the best of its time, it is also one of the best looking 911's of all time.

:yeah:

This sums it up perfectly ....

No denigration of the 996 but the 997 just is better in every way .....

It is the 997 that will live on as the best of this generation of 911's.....

Beautiful .......

Your bang on ,those bloody discs go rusty as soon as you sneeze :hand: have new ones fitted now mind you also have some side decals fitted, you heading down to PITG on Sunday ?

Fingers crossed.....

It's not a car that's advertised but a car I stumbled across that's only less than 20mins from me. Private sale, but so far all stacks up and looks pretty mint.

What's the main things that cause issues on these? I understand some issues which can occur are impossible to check and just happen unannounced like spun canshafts, but is it possible to check things like seized actuator rods and coolant pipes without getting on a ramp? I bit out on a limb as there are not many PPI specialists in Somerset!
The closest are SCS Honiton and Steve Bull Devizes both approx 1hr15 from the car.

I had a full PPI then came 3 grand of fixes none spotted by the 111 checks....

the dealer paid the bill anyway

Ask if they will travel out to inspect he car - limited without a ramp but probably better than relying on your own know-how. Also Braunton Engineering and of course Peter Morgan.

So had a good look at this car tonight....spent some while with the chap. All looked really promising. Bodywork excellent - a few imperfections but nothing you would call excessive for age, and seemed a well cared for example. I was starting to get that feeling you all know what I mean when you think you've found your next car!
I was told full OPC history, but then when looking through the paperwork and service book discovered the car has only been serviced a total of 3 times, and in the current owners 8 year possession it had only been serviced once! Deal breaker surely?? Bit gutted if I'm honest! :nooo:

What was his explanation for it not being serviced? Unless you are getting an amazing deal walk away.
