Check with the previous owner if the IMS was done, he might know, and an awful lot of them, especially ones which have been looked after, will of had it done already!

Knock a third off what you'd value a straight one at. Does Cat C have to be inspected after repairs completed and I think if so comes with a certificate?

That was a VIC. Abolished a couple of years ago after it was decided it served no purpose. It was an identity check more than anything, and caught a handful of cars at best, at a truly whopping cost to the motorist population.

Until very recently all the talk of category damage and being able to be returned to the road was just that - talk. There was no basis in law. In fact, I'm of the opinion (on the grounds I can't find any amended legislation) that there still isn't; but DVLA have done what they usually do and made up their own rules - to the point where for certain categories they will now no longer issue a V5.

Yup it's still the same. Salvage cars are only categorised by the insurance industry itself. There is no basis in law that says a cat b can't be put back on the road for instance.

Just look at them as going through a restoration. I remember watching an orange carrera 2.7 going through a restoration and thinking 90% of the cars shell was new metal. It was insane. I've had a few myself and had no problems with getting them insured or even warrantied for some.

Thats fantastic OP!

I bet you could even flip that for a profit already. Glad you went with what you felt, you really can't fall off with what you've bought.

Personally on your car I would do the IMS and then change it every clutch change as a maintenance item. Thats just my point of view having had 3 NA M96 engined cars. Thumb
