Servicing oop North

9m are better now, I have been stung once. There have been major staff changes and service has improved.
I do most of the work myself now but with occasional stuff done by Unit 11, Cath Burrows or Kev @ Coppull and Jim @ Chillout for the a/c.
It's been good to get to know these people and develop a trusting relationship. Also a lot more convenient than a 400 mile round trip.

Looked after my 993 and 964 over several years. Andy is the air-cooled (and water) guru and has been joined by Scott who is Porsche trained and ex OPC Leeds who has recently moved over from Revolution to join the team.

They know their stuff with a Yorkshire welcome and train station short distance away with link to main East/West coast lines

Revolution get my vote. They recently had a 959 in which i think says it all

I only have experience with Strasse from the specialists you've short listed.

I can say that I've used them for the past 22 years without any issues, and have bought two cars from them so can wholeheartedly recommend them.

Unit eleven, I drive from Sheffield yearly for the service. Top guys and have spotted and resolved a couple of dangerous issues caused by 9m. I understand 9m might have improved recently from previous posts but I cant forgive them stripping a rear toe bolt during a geo which left the toe flapping about on one side until noticed at unit eleven and sorted. Considering I sometimes use the car with my toddler in the car I was really angry...

Dean and Gary will sort out your car....Newcastle is only a couple of hours drive for you.

+1.

Just in case you're stuck for choice, can I add Specialist Cars of Malton into the mix. Although they sell and service water cooled cars, they specialize in air cooled . Just watch out for the speed cameras in North Yorkshire.👮👮

I use Mike Bainbridge of MB Engineering just outside Kendal. Mike looks after my air cooled 911. Mike started off at Parker and Parker (now Porsche centre Kendal) in the late 60's. he went on to work with Autofarm, Dage Motorsport, BS Motorsport and Tuthills. Mike has got a wealth of air cooled knowledge and the bulk of his work is engine and gearbox rebuilds. He's a one man band so you get 'the man" working on your car. If you are wanting a flash workshop he's proberbly not your man though 🤣.

me to 15 years but all water cooled, good set of lads once you get used to Dave humour👍

Have you considered Nelson's in Stockton on Tees? There's a few of us on here use him, you'll need to book at least a month in advance.

Knows an awful lot about air cooled stuff, and you'll find his prices very reasonable.

2.5 hours on train from Edinburgh.

Brian Miller in Edinburgh has been looking after my 993 since 2001.

I've used Brian at Jasmine in burnley for over 10 years now. Wouldn't hesitate to reccomend him for both air cooled and water cooled.

Used unit 11 for many years, Jonny knows his air-cooled onions certainly and pricing fair. A word of warning, ninemeister will happily pull your pants down get a written quote before proceeding especially with their body shop. Can't fault their work but they certainly will charge you for it and their verbal quotes cannot be trusted at all.

^^^^ This

9m will charge you handsomely for every nut and bolt, Unit 11 have done plenty for me for free whilst "in there".

A small example was at a service when between MOT and service somehow the tube of the washer jets split and they where not working. They spotted it and fitted a none return valve at the break point without charging me, they have replaced failed jubilee clips, nuts etc... all without charge.
I've seen them turn away work when people have come in for second opinions on "required" works from other local  "specialists" that simply did not need doing.

You just get "vibes" about people and I knew after spending 1 day at 9m which I would rather use

I really rate Unit 11 they lent me their van to go to the cash point and as Jon said they they are most helpful and don't find stuff that doesn't need doing. I will be taking the 993 in to sort out ABS light problem if I can't find an easy solution. They have done quite a bit on the 944 but this will be the first time for the 993 as I like to do most of the stuff myself but getting those ABS sensors out fills me with dread.
