Wanted : 997 Turbo or 4S Targa

No offence Terry, or to any one else, but too many people can't afford the car they want so they need a warranty to pay for any problems they meet; I have never had a warranty and don't think I ever will, so private or auction I will go. It depends on the personality I suppose

Lol !...So your are saying someone that could pay £60k with spare cash for a toy (as far as you know) , can't afford the car repairs so that is why they want a warranty?? Pretty big leap you are making there mate.

I think your trying to buy the best possible car with all the boxes checked, warranty, manual, OPC S/History at the lowest possible price, which is what we all want. That's fine if your buying something that's difficult to shift and there's loads for sale but your not. The dealers will be falling over themselves to buy a low mileage, FPSH no over revvs manual car, so much so you won't even get to sit in it!
Realistic market pricing is based on what the market is selling these cars for and in Spring that's commonly referred to as Top Dollar, in which case you might as well give up looking for a Turbo! You will probably get a 'tip' at that money but a PDK, unless it's got very high miles not a chance and a manual with no over revs, the same.
Even a very good 996 Turbo is probably going to stretch your budget.

yep, I would probably agree. I would also be happy with a 4S Targa if poss.

Not quite sure why you would expect a private individual who for example had a manual turbo with OPC warranty with no issues to ask any less than a specialist Indy would?

Sellers can ask what they like BUT whilst the cars might be identical it's pretty much a stone cold fact that any dealer, and especially a Porsche specialist, is likely to sell a car at a better price as they can offer finance, part-ex and perceived peace of mind.

Canny buyers will buy privately but most would expect to save a few bob over buying from a dealer.

Yes OK I get that, but..

As I understand it no specialist can sell a Porsche themselves and the vehicle retain the OPC warranty, if it has one. So you are technically buying direct from the current private owner with the specialist acting as a broker and therefore potentially not bound by the latest Consumer Rights Act.
Now short of the specialist wanting to maintain there reputation in the event of an issue post purchase what's to stop them quoting 'caveat emptor' and shutting the door on you?

Not if you have borrowed the £60k, Mavster

Fortunately for me, no need to borrow,.. which is why I am looking to buy privately :dont know: Still wrong of you to assume !

I don't think I assumed anything. I think I started by saying ' no offence to anyone"

You seem all over the place pal, I would not take you seriously.

I thought I was making sense, sorry to confuse you guys. I should probably concentrate on the car buying sites me thinks  Tough crowd on here.

...Yes, then you used the "BUT" word which changed the meaning your statement as I read it which is why I reacted.

Seriously, I think realistically you'll be looking for a good 4 S and there's nothing wrong with a good well looked after car, they're a quick car and probably a bit cheaper to run than a Turbo. Buying on a set budget is a game of luck, if the right car comes up and you've got the cash sitting there you might get lucky, I did when I got my Turbo.
I hope you get the car you want and not the car you could just afford, after all it's only money and the better cars hold their value, also they're a lot more fun than an ISA :D

I think Easternjets hit the nail on the head, the chap wants a series of Turbo boxes ticked and he wants to buy at his money. His naivety on the subject shines through. An unblemished OPC history is not only rare but not always the best option considering that Porsche miss things all the time that a qualified indy wont.
I would like this, I want that, I wouldn't want this, over rev this, no over rev that. Forum chat, not real world experience. Do you think cars such as you mention are hanging around just waiting on you? its a fight currently with dealers to get manual Turbo cars and then they ask a massive premium for them, I personally have seen prices going up again for both 6 and 7T models.

West coast,

I think it is a pretty simple ask re the 2 options I am considering.

The first being A 997 turbo with Porsche history and no significant over-run registered history for up to £60k ish !

I think £60k ish will get a decent low miler Turbo with OPC warranty. I have (like many here) had several Porsche and many other sportscars,.. hopefully at least enough experience to work out what I need to about the car I want. Thanks for your advice however which is appreciated, I don't necessarily agree.
