I ran mine out today with the undertray off and the top down, noise level .......IMHO the same :?:

Yes I think it's a tad different sounding, better basically.
 
I ran mine for a month or two a couple years ago without the tray - and can concur it is definitely louder. It was the only difference I noticed when I re-fitted it. However, I didn't see any difference in operating temps.

While I understand that removing the tray may help dissipate heat, there must be something in the design that allowed for regulated air-flow while it is in place - and a flat underside must also be a better thing, right?
