A quick question, any ideas in how to take the front silver fascia off the steering wheel pictured below?

Cheers

Well done!! I chopped one to bits with a grinder :floor: attacked it from the back to release the tabs. I've since discovered with some heat you can get them off without too much hassle.

Can I ask why you've taken it off? I had mine painted in matt basalt.

So whats the plan mate :D :D

I've never sweated so much in my life, and I thought my youth days getting chased by the ole' bill by running was bad enough !! :thumb:

All 3 corners has tabs that fit real tight in the rubber moulding and you can imagine without any lube it's friction, using plastic pry tools is the only way, just have to tease it out here and there and slowly it pops out, then the airbag spring bar at the bottom has to be disconnected then the whole shroud comes out, reverse side there are approx 10 or maybe more torx screws to take parts off leaving you with just the fascia...

No grinder was used during this operation Silvermilnec, just sweat! :hand:

Phil, I'm looking to colour code the fascia in my car colour !!! Also Managed to take off the spears couple hours ago and a few other bits and will pack and send off to Wicked Coatings

Cheers

nice mate lookforward to seeing pics

We did a great group buy with wicked, I don't think anyone had a complaint all very happy! Quality work.

I had the console and seat backs in high gloss basalt then the facia in a soft touch basalt, the soft touch is well soft reminds me of a girl I used to date in the 80s :floor:

I remember the group buy but just missed it !! But still got the center console done who h costed a bit more etc!!

Who's the contact at Wicked Coatings? Maybe I should contact direct to him to arrange the parts for painting etc!!

Also Phil. How comes you didn't paint the mirror corners near the spears. You know where the mirror adjustment switch Is??

Cheers

J

Ok, got back the bits from Wicked Coatings, fitted the side panels back on the car today!! Interior Light, wing mirror corner covers and also the steering wheel fascia has been painted also in same colour but haven't put back on steering wheel as I'm looking to go to Linus to have the arm rest with Logo, gear knob, gaiter, hand brake and steering wheel retrimmed In alcantara then I'll fit the fascia back!! Oh also notice the GT3 style door handles !! :thumb:

Also another question for you guys, in the picture where you see the stereo surround fascia, heater and auxiliary buttons for PSE etc, was thinking of getting them painted in same colour as the spears/car.

What do you lot think???

Cheers

Just for reference ..

The white rectangles on the third picture is actually dryed glue .

When you fit these from new you fill the holes in the steering wheel with this glue then put the surround into place and wait for it to set .

If refitting an old one you would clean some of that off then apply glue to the holes and fit .

As you found out removal is a little tricky :) there is no other way to do it though that im aware of .

Hi Demort, dried glue? Didnt know that!! would I still need to glue the fascia? Cos it seems a tight fit I.e. when the fascia is on the steering wheel I would need a force to push the tabs in.. !!

J, very nice love the door spears as you know, but I am really impressed with the mirror triangles and roof light unit , those are my next two mods ,I have the spare mirror triangles and the spare roof light surround should be with me early next week. great to actually see what it will look like. :thumb: :thumb: it looks so much better than all that matt plastic everywhere. what about the little rectangular pieces under the door speakers what the plan for them ,I cant decide whether to paint or do in alcantara.or leather the same as the rest of the door :thumb:

I must agree I can't believe Porsche still use the matt black!

Hi Phil, cheers :thumb: .... I must admit it does transform the interior a lot, this is something Porsche should have done themselves in all honesty, regards the rectangle bits under the speakers.. I think too much colour coding on the door is overkill, spears and mirror corners is just right, if I start taking little bits off here and there just because it's easy to take off and paint it will end up looking cheap chavs car you get in Max Power magazines back in the day lol, Less is more in my opinion... I'd leave as it is Phil, but then your taste maybe be different to mine in how you want your interior look!

I'm debating wether should paint the front panel fascia also you know the stereo fascia and heater controls fascia in same colour but not sure how it would look and i think that's all I would do to be honest !!! What you think?

J, As your car is silver/grey I think it would work well mate , I have seen it done in black gloss and matt black aka gen2 they looked good ,I have seen it in red looked nice but I also saw it in riviera and was overkill so IMHO it depends on the body colour as what will work and Silver/grey I am sure would work. :thumb: As you say it needs to be subtle or it can look MAX power

Re the little plastic bit under the door speaker you have a good point and think I will send them to Design LS to be leather trimmed to blend in with the rest of the door leather. :thumb:
