RSJ Sports Cars experience ?

They just need to find enough people that like the way they do business. They are not for me either, but sufficient people like it there.

I spoke with them many years ago about a Turbo they had in stock which I was interested in. A no test drive policy meant I bought elsewhere.

I recall that their reasoning is that there is little to be gained from sitting in a traffic queue in Slough.

I guess a buyer has to trust that the car is perfectly prepared, or if its not, then RSJ will put it right.

I will grant you however that you need to have tried one somewhere else to establish if you want one or not!

Trust and a reputation of integrity are hard earned.

No hesitation - if something took my fancy that would be it

RSJ along with certain other companies remain benchmark dealers

RSJ have built a good reputation and loyal customer base through a proven sourcing, preparation, sales and after-sales experience focussed on a subset of the Porsche used market (997 + 991, 981, 987, no air-cooled or GT cars). It's given the RSJ brand some monetary value, hence they will price accordingly, many dealers have no value in their own brand and can't do that.

I was an RSJ customer just the once but am now a repeat customer of 911 Virgin, not due to any issues with RSJ, just preference and relationship with 911V. It's a competitive market in a competitive region that has other Porsche specialist dealers with strong brands and business models too, it's good to have a few to choose from :thumb:

I went to RSJ with the intention to buy my first ever Porsche. I did months of online research trawling through thread upon thread to debate what to do.

I came away with a mixed bag of feelings.

In short I had felt a bit duped by the original advert after seeing the car in question in the flesh.

there were other cars there which were lovely. One of which we nearly shook hands on however there was an issue with the paperwork which could not be resolved.

I ended up buying from a member on here and putting the cash saved on the RSJ premium into mods.

However that being said, would I buy from RSJ? In a word yes I guess I would. I saw a car they had prepped for a customer collection and it was very well done. In fact despite not having an opportunity to drive any cars I do genuinely believe they will uphold any claims on their in house warranty. The margins on their cars allow them to do this.

If you do go make sure you go through the paperwork with a fine tooth comb the average Porsche ownership is around 2 years and so it is important to check dates, mileages, intervals and anything else if you can.

I was talking to Tom at 911V who had no 997.1 in. But I also would spend my money there and also at JZM however I think they do not deal in 997.1 anymore.

all the best

Thanks for all the replies guys. Ive already been to view a car at RSJ and I like the car very much. They have told me for the price they are asking the car will be gone though thoroughly and any issues will be attended to, including painting the front end (stone chips), blowing in a scratch on the rear bumper and refurbing the wheels to get them perfect. However I think the same car were it not at RSJ would be £4k less even after they have done all the work above.

Obviously the 1 year warranty adds value, I guess I need to decide wether to take a chance on a cheaper private purchase, or pay a premium for an RSJ prepped and warrantied car.

Decisions decisions :?:

RSJ

My mate bought a 997.2 C4S from them, was really well prepped when he picked it up, a few issues cropped up later on and in fact just after the warranty had ended and they authorised the local OPD to carry out the work with absolutely no hassle. Would highly recommend.

Your remarks have a great deal of value

:bandit: Many horse dealers out there mon brav

Stick to the ones we trust

A very well written reply MJA. I also think it is good to have competition within the Porsche specialists - it's what keeps them on their toes.

My experience was that 911V didn't take my enquiry seriously enough at the time (back in 2012), so I called RSJ who were, and still are, exemplary. This doesn't mean I would rule out dealing with 911V in the future though, but my preference would always be RSJ, based purely on my own experiences.

Regarding another post on this thread where a buyer was left in two minds, the poster answered his own question; the 'premium' clearly goes in to the prep standards. My own car looked like a brand new version on collection, having had a lot new parts fitted prior to sale which included two new front tyres, new rear discs and pads, new wheel arch liners, new turbo fixings and a lot more besides. Premium? Not in my experience!

they have an air-cooled currently up for sale

I bought my 996 C4S from RSJ a few years back. My first Porsche, so I was incredibly nervous and hesitant, but I did my due diligence on who to buy from - and they were one of the good guys from what I could see.

The car hadn't been prepped when I viewed and there were a few drips, but their assurances that it would be as new when I collected were spot on. A zero rated invoice to show the work that had been done was provided. Couldn't be happier. A couple of minor but expensive things cropped up during the warranty period which were sorted without question. Did it cost more than had I bought privately? Yes. But the piece of mind that came from the cover (for me as a newbie) - plus the value of the snags that were fixed meant it was certainly worth it for me. But ultimately you pay your money and you take your choice.

Yeah @palladium, I shouldn't have said no air cooled or GT cars, obviously incorrect given they have a 993 in stock at the moment. Not seen that before, not seen a GT car either, but doesn't mean they haven't, I stand corrected.

No reason why a private car can't be as good as an RSJ offering. Just do your homework beforehand and shell out for the very best PPI including borescope on .1

Stupid question but are RSJ open to a bit of haggling or is the price 'the price'..... just curious before I go to see them....

From my experience no haggling. I ummmed and errred over the car I wanted as a result and when I finally made up my mind that I wanted it someone else had already put a deposit down!
