I seem to be getting a creak at low speed on the N/S suspension. Only happens when I been for a longish drive.
OPC looked at the car briefly and think it maybe the lower control arm. The mechanic didn't seem that positive. Cost fitted £1,150.00
I have came across a few post where people have found its the Bilstein damper that need a reconditioning.
I had my Geo set up by Centre Gravity last June and Chris Franklins name keeps popping up for diagnosing the problem.
Anyone had this problem, as I do not have much faith in the OPC. I have OPC warranty but this is not covered as wear and tear.
I did read Roro,s great threat on his stressful time to resolve his issues.
Thanks

this can be a problem, maybe a cracked ARB, a problem with a bushing or another component, not an easy find _________________ Get a Porsche Car Insurance Quote

Creaking is a fairly common problem & IME is almost always a bush. It's not easy to pinpoint where it's coming from but top of my list would be the LCA as that has 2 bushes; a close second would be the ARB bushes. The suspension strut collar at the top of the damper body is another source of noise but it's more metallic in nature, as is a failing top mount bearing.
The LCA in the GT3 is a pricey bit of kit as it's essentially a motorsport part; unfortunately, it has no serviceable parts so you will either have to suck it up or ditch the warranty and fit either replacement bushes or a more modular LCA such as the RSS one which is completely serviceable.
Chris Franklin will be able to diagnose it correctly first time; will the OPC guarantee that if they change the LCA it will cure the creak? _________________ Nick

100%
I’ll put money on it being worn DU bushes in the front Bilsteins - Chris diagnosed and sorted this on my car a few years ago now. Suggest you don’t waste money with OPC’s, spend it with suspension and chassis specialists like Centre Gravity. I can’t remember what I paid for Chris to sort the issue, but I’m pretty sure it was under 1k for both front dampers refurb and proper geo set up _________________ 2007 997.1 GT3

Rory been to Chris last June for a Geo set up. 3 hour journey but worth it. Will give him a call. Did he have exchange items or did you stay overnight while they were rebuilt. _________________ 2007 997.1GT3

Blimey Darren - how many times (here and on PH) do you need to hear the message??!! I'd place money on it - just get along to Chris and have your struts refurbed. Job done...

Darren, drove up there and left the car. It was there about a week from memory, but that was probably because it was more convenient for me to drop one weekend and collect the next
(For rebuild not exchange, dampers were removed and sent off to Bilstein) _________________ 2007 997.1 GT3

Was there Saturday for a Porsche clinic slot, first time to CG with this car, the GT3 sure is adjustable, even a standard one. Going back to replace a couple of joints and a geo plus to diagnose a mystery sound, wheel bearing or pads binding were suspects but that didn't really pan out when up on the ramp. Chris mentioned he will use a stethoscope listening device so he may well do that with yours. _________________ 991.1 C2, 986 Boxster S
