PCM1 swap out for new audio/nav

Hi, I have searched and can't find what I'm looking for.

I'm thinking of removing, and storing, the original PCM with nav in my 1998 996 and putting something in there that has nav, Bluetooth, DAB etc. Not looking at a full swap out, ideally simply a head unit change and reconnect whatever is there.

Want to fit in the same place, so when it gets sold (bought as a very occasional toy/ISA is what I told my wife :D ) I can either swap back out or a future owner can.

Any recommendations for systems? Any issues I need to be aware of (last car stereo I swapped out was probably about the same time as this car was built!) :D

Thanks :thumb:

is that a photo of your car? If it is, then it's non-Bose, 4 channel (No door speakers)?
If that's the case, then any double DIN unit and a trim piece such as the Connects2 one.
You may need an ISO cable converter too.

Head unit wise, what's your budget? You can get a very high featured android based unit for about £250

HI, yes it is :) It has a 6 cd changer in the front boot too

I'll have a look at connects2. As I cant get the code to work (!!) I cant tell if the door speaker are fitted, they look like there are

The door speakers would be in the carpeted panel on the door where it looks like you have cubby / storage bins?

and this interface - ignore the cupholder thing though

your porsche dealer may be able to help with the code :thumb:

I'm going to give it one more go, I have the codes just dont seem to get them to work..then I'l take it to Tewsebury and ask nicely. If it costs a load, may make my mind up to switch easier lol

Also need a second key, sort of what could be fading or overcoat issue on a panel and sort a non working rear heated window. All not declared on sale...so trying to sort that out with the trader :judge:

OK, I know its Halfords (please dont flame me too hard, easy site to look at) but something like this? http://www.halfords.com/technology/...w-m730bt-car-stereo-with-carplay-android-auto

Am guessing I either blank off the lower CD/Nav drive if I remove or simply leave there and not use.

That would do the job - or this?

the CD drive thing could be removed and replaced with a storage hole, or disconnect and left.
The CD drive in the frunk would be redundant too :)

Ar, frunk, right one to add to my repertoire. So basically take it all out, reuse power and speaker connecters and stick in a box for the next owner :thumb:

Yep!

if you get the code working, sell the PCM and gubbins to fund the new head unit?

But.....
the four speaker system isn't going to blow the doors off. I suggest you change all 4 speakers as that will improve it, but you'll never get much bass.
A slimline sub in the rear footwell might help you there.

it's a never ending task!!
