Just put my manual C2 993 up for sale £32,500.00

When I was looking for a car i travelled and saw lots of 993's advertised. That's when I realised terms like 'immaculate' and 'full service history' were in fact subjective rather than statements of fact. From memory, every car I looked at bar one and the car I bought, had missing service history. A year or two with no evidence of annual service and perhaps an unquantifiable story about how it was laid up, barely used for.. xxxx or taken abroad for a period. A fair few cars had a stamp in the book but no corresponding invoice. This was the norm rather than exception. Finding total, from day one, provenance which has been kept and passed on between owners for 20 years plus is uncommon.

Good call re the MOT History. According to this it had 56k in July 2010 & 57k in August 2011 based on it original plate number.
Listed as a Purple Porsche 911, LPG Powered and Registered 31st Dec 1997.
Reads like the right car with the exception of the Fuel type?

I think it's only fair I don't post the plate number unless JZM confirm otherwise.

For any interested buyers, it was a great car that had been looked after and maintained correctly.

Without going through my files I can't be exact, however looking back at my posts on the forum it was 2010, so sold late 2010/early 2011. Mileage when I sold it was pushing 70k.

JZM have not made contact.

Am I missing something here? Wouldn't an MOT history check throw up the discrepancy in mileage? Mine goes back to 2006

Any number of ways in between MOT's to hide the true mileage travelled in the year eg swap speedo for another and then put original back in, simply disconnect the speedo by cable or switch, etc.....

Nb this can be done to any car even modern ones but its a bit more hassle now as you have to have them 'reprogrammed" so its most common in a cars early life ie lots have 2 year service intervals now and so a car can rack up eg 50k miles and be 'knocked back" to say 20k in line with a PCP lease etc..... Why do you think there are so many new Fords / Mercs running around as UBERs ;-)

In the '80s I knew a chap who used to have his works van rigged up to a Meccano electic motor in the garage to move it on so he could 'claim' the additional petrol  The hamsters were too getting too expensive when petrol was £1.50 a gallon

Jacob's cream crackers are very good at getting rid of the 4* aftertaste :what:

Not getting it in relation to Cableguy's car, assuming the JZM car is the same one. If the speedo showed 70k in 2010/11 that would appear on the MOT history. if it now shows 62k five or six years later, surely that should ring alarm bells? It's easy enough to check the MOT history. Even with a number plate change as my GTV had a number plate change a few years ago and that shows too on the MOT history, which is online.

if you ever buy a van at 3 years old, make sure it wasn't a courier van, these boys can do 250 a day 6 days a week, no sweat. Think about it.

if you are worried about mileage, then i think very long term ownership with very few owners is the best route,

if you are not, then there are plenty of decent cars still out there.

i noticed a blue sc on ebay, incredibly one owner from new, 77k miles, that wont hang about.

That SC still needs lots of work and you won't know how bad it is until the wings are off. Rust in usual hotspots. Could be nothing but then again you could strip the car and it could get very expensive indeed to repair it properly. Lovely provenance but even at £35k you can't make the numbers add up in my view. Spk to Mr Bainbridge about the car who's seen it and worked on it close up - according to him you could get a repair bill for anything between £10k and £20k if you want to sympathetically restore her to her former glory.

JZM potentially having a car that may have been clocked a bit embarrassing IMO. How thorough are their checks in reality?

its a fair point, but a basic project aircooled that is a known rustbucket, with huge miles, etc etc, wont shift for under 20k, people just wont let them go for any less.

its also not totally vital to do a restoration unless its unroadworthy, its the sort of thing where you can drive around for years before its done.

i think the sc on ebay is a great buy if you are keeping it, it will always be a 2 owner car and these could be the next to explode in price as they are still seen as the most affordable aircooled.

Hi Guys,

This is the MOT history for the Vesuvius C2S at JZM pulled through from the Gov website, the history makes sense and clearly has a different mileage to the 70,000 yours had in 2010, it looks like it is just a different car.

The C2S also has 20 stamps from OPC's and Porsche Specialist's that all correlate to the mileage on the MOT history.

If anyone would like further clarification then please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thanks

Given the servicing and MOT history all adding up, it would appear that it is a different car, no? :dont know:

Anyway...going back to the topic of the thread. Have you sold it yet, MattyR?

I would have eaten my hat if this wasn't my car. There can't be many Vesuvius C2S' with the RS bits, colour coded Hollow Spokes, Fog/Brake Ducts and with Black Hardbacks...?

MOT and History check out. I wish you well with the sale. :thumb:

Eat the hat.

To get back on topic, I've seen the photo's of Matty's 993 and it is definitely a lovely example! Someone will be very happy!

Cheers gents. At present a few enquiries but nothing concrete. A couple of people trying to get me down well below £30,000.00. Err no.

Early days yet and January probably not the best time to be selling but I haven't listed it anywhere else yet so likely to do so this week.

At the worst I'll find a way to keep it and break it to the missus gently

Update: I've added a whole host of new info to the advert detailing the vast majority of work I've had done over the years.

Enjoy the weekend lads!

993

It must be hard to sell a 993 just now! I had a browse on PHeads and cheapest manual 993 C2 is £39995. Is it the mileage that is putting people off this one.. Is Zingari right all along and they are all really just 25 baggers! I would be feeling a little uncomfortable if I had bought one in the £40ks as an investment :dont know:
