Yellowing headlights - how to treat?

Isn't it the factory clearcoat/lacquer that yellows in the first place though? Because that is the problem and the reason why you're restoring them to begin with

But seriously though, I did mine over a year ago - limited use but still they look exactly the same as the day I did them (no lacquer), and have heard similar from other people - so not sure how essential it is to re-lacquer once they've been polished.

Did the headlights on another of my cars (2004 Mercedes) and that's driven in all weathers and parked outside and they're just fine too (plastic lenses/no lacquer applied)

Probably the lacquer helps prevent scratching of the plastic lens but you can always quickly buff them up in seconds if needed as you won't have the damaged lacquer to remove first :thumb:

I had both mine done by a kid who specialises in detailing. I say kid as he really was early twenties and he spent a good hour and a half doing both lights and reapplying a clear coat, the cost was £15 for both, I felt bad so I gave him £20. I don't know how he can justify such a cheap amount. He also details cars for £100. I felt sorry for his girlfriend who had tagged along and was Sat in his car lol.

This is on my to-do list but I have a question

Mine have been previously sanded (you can see the lines). Can I do it again or will it end up cracking the plastic? New lenses are just ludicrous cost wise but the lights are letting the car down currently.
