I jump started mine the other week. Strictly following the handbook (which is logical anyway), and all was fine.

Why not fit a simple and cheap voltage protector ? Such as the 'Kemo M168 Car Voltage Spike Protector' this will protect the electrics at all times including a wayward alternator, protect LED's etc.
