comment: As a new 996 owner, I am scared to death that this little tinker is going to destroy my engine!! I have a small RMS leak and I am considering having this and the IMS replaced. However, this will cost me the best part of £1,800!!! Now I don't know what to do.

PS, hello from a newbie!

The safest option with what you currently have is when you have the RMS replaced, have your ims coverplate removed and check the bearing for any play. When you realise there's nothing wrong with it, ping off the outer bearing seal. By doing this, the bearing will then be forever lubricated by the engine oil and dramatically reduce any issue you may have. It shouldn't cost much more than what you'll be paying to have the RMS replaced.

There is no guarantee with ANY aftermarket replacement and engine builders like Hartech have regularly seen failed 'upgrades'.

Save your money and follow the above advice. :thumb:

Oh, and welcome to the forum - you're in a safe place here
