Anyone know what's going on here? Have a small leak. Image below.

Thanks!

Hi Matt
Unfortunately I can't advise on the leak but I did private message you a couple of months ago re some 996T headlights you said you were selling
If you still have this please and want to sell, please check yr PM and drop me a line. :thumb:

I'm sure a knowledgeable forum member will be along shortly to give opinion on the leak.

All the best :bye:
Adam

If you can get a picture of the other side of the gearbox it will help a bit.

2 places it looks like atm ..

1 / The drain plug seal.

2 / The rear half of the gearbox caseing gasket is leaking .

The driveshaft seal that side is a little damp but not the leak i think .

Its also possible that its the oil cooler leaking and running down hence a picture of the other side of the gearbox would help :)

Thanks. It was the diff seal in the end.

To update further, the leak persisted and has now been diagnosed as the gear selector seal. This means Gearbox has to come out and opened to replace the seal. My Indie reckons 18hrs labour in all. Second gear isn't the strongest if rushed when cold and highish revs so now looking at the possibility of a rebuild. Any Gearbox rebuild recommendations? Makes sense to get it looked at whilst box is out and open

Mike at Sports and Classic would be my first choice.

Mike at Sports & Classics. Ask him ro check all the box whilst its stripped and especially 2nd gear synchro which is a known weakness. You don't state mileage, but at high miles the pinion might be shot also.

Prices for parts from Porsche have gone up. Best is drop your car at Mike, take one of his courtesy cars and return to collect your car after its sorted.

Thanks.Have contacted Sports and Classic, who were my first choice but want to consider all options before choosing where to send it. Car has 90k miles.

At that mileage you may face additional wear and tear bills in the gearbox. Mike measures everything anyway and will report anything out of or close to tolerance with a recommendation to change or do nothing.

You are into a fairly big bill - but you know that already right? And as you say, you want it sorted - so Mike is your man. He does more gearbox strip and rebuilds than any other Indy as far as I know. When I pop around and have a coffee and chat, he usually has a gearbox in for strip and rebuild from either a private customer or a trade gearbox rebuild on behalf of another specialist.

Yep, well aware. Thanks for the recommendation. Think this is where I will go if I choose to send it to the UK. In Dubai there are one or two places but they are quite expensive. There's a JZM in Abu Dhabi that appear to have the expertise and seem reasonably priced, so will investigate that before going through the hassle of sending to the UK.

Thanks!

Entirely your choice, but I do know of of one example of a guy who had his box shipped on a pallet to Mike from UAE and another example of a botched repair from Greece that had rendered the box unserviceable and had to be scrapped. The UAE example was a success and I think is on his website testimonials.

Good luck with however you go for a solution.
